2010 PGA CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF PREVIEW:
As the last major of the year, the PGA Championship serves as the final chance for golfers to capture a one of the most elusive titles in the sport. This year, the 92nd edition of the tournament returns to Whistling Straits in Haven, Wisconsin, for the first time since 2004, when Vijay Singh took home the Wanamaker Trophy.

Although he has certainly had a tumultuous year, and is heading into the British Open having yet to win a tournament, Tiger Woods has to be among the favorites when the competition tees off on August 12. Woods has won the tournament four times, most recently in 2007. Fans should be on the look out for Wisconsin-born Steve Stricker who just won the John Deere Classic with an astounding 26-under par.

The Straits Course at Whistling Straits is anything but an easy test for the field. The course, which offers striking views of Lake Michigan, is a daunting 7,514 yards which makes it the second longest course ever to host a major. Perhaps most intimidating is the 223-yard par-3 17th hole. This iconic hole is one of the hardest par-3s around, and features a difficult green surrounded by treacherous sand dunes on the right and a steep 20-foot drop to leading to the lake on the left.

The PGA Championship is golf's 4th major tournament, along with: The Masters, US Open and British Open. The PGA is played every August, and is the considered by many to be the last big golf tournament of the year; aside from The Tour Championship.

The PGA Championship is unique in that it typically has the largest field of golfers of any of the other major tournaments. The field for the PGA Championship contains all of the former PGA Championship winners, winners of the last 5 majors (Masters, US Open & British), the 15 lowest scoring golfers from the previous year's PGA, the lowest 20 scoring golfers from the last PGA National Championship, the top 70 money leaders, the members of the last US Ryder Cup team, winners of all tournaments co-sponsored by the PGA Tour, additional invited players, and the last winner of the Senior PGA Championship. They have space at the PGA for 156 golfers.

The PGA Championship has been played since 1916. The first PGA Championship was played at Siwanoy Country Club in New York. The first 40 years of the tournament it was a match play format. Since 1958 the PGA Championship has used the common stroke play format that most golf tournaments employ.

There are a variety of ticket options for the PGA Championship golf tournament. Daily Grounds passes grant access to the PGA on the specific day printed on the pass. Then there are Weekly Grounds passes, often referred to as a Season Pass or Weekly Season Ticket, which are good for all 7 days of the tournament. More exclusive are the Wanamaker tickets, which provide access to the course, but also get you access to the Wanamaker Club. The Wanamaker Club is a climate controlled pavilion setup on the PGA course that is furnished and has food/beverages available for sale. There is also a Snug Harbor ticket that gains you access to a VIP facility that is only open from Thursday-Sunday.
