TicketCity Reveals the Top 25 Hottest College Football Games for Week 6
Loyal fans, interesting venues and strong rivalries continue to dominate the top 25 despite changes in poll rankings for top teams.
Austin, TX (BusinessWire – September 21, 2009) – The season is a quarter of the way through for most teams and several surprise upsets have knocked top ranked teams down. As the season continues, top games according to demand remain stable despite changes in team ranking. Florida at LSU dominates the list followed by USC at Notre Dame and Arkansas at A&M. A notable jump in ticket price this week is for the Wisconsin at Minnesota game. With venues and fans affecting demand, ticket prices hardly falter compared to last week.
USC at Notre Dame remains in the number two spot despite USC’s upset against Washington. “Though USC fell in the AP rankings, it’s a major rivalry for both teams,” states Rafael Rivas, VP of Sales for TicketCity. “While Notre Dame leads in the series overall, USC has won the last seven meetings and with USC defeated so early in the season, Notre Dame fans are looking for a comeback on their own turf.”
Arkansas at Texas A&M holds the number three spot for the third consecutive week as the game continues to grow in demand. While the revived rivalry is gaining traction among the fans, the bigger draw is the location. “New Cowboys Stadium is proving to be a great venue for college football,” comments Rafael Rivas, VP of Sales for TicketCity. “The state-of-the-art facility is the driving force behind demand for BYU vs Oklahoma, Arkansas vs Texas A&M, Texas Tech vs Baylor and most especially for the Big 12 Championship. With the average ticket price starting at $325 for the Big 12 Championship this week, the game will be huge in coming weeks.”
Shooting into the top 10 for this week is the Wisconsin at Minnesota game. At 116 games in the series, the rivalry is the longest running in Division 1-A football. The game has been in the bottom 5 of the top 25 for the last two weeks with an average ticket price of $240. Known as Paul Bunyan’s Axe, the game is now ranked tenth with an average ticket costing $332. “One factor influencing demand is Minnesota’s new stadium,” states Rivas. “Seating capacity dropped from 64,000 at the Metrodome to 50,000 at TCF Bank Stadium leaving fans scrambling for seats to the big rivalry.”
Another venue making headlines is home to the Alamo Bowl. The Alamodome will be the neutral battleground for the Notre Dame vs Washington State matchup. While both teams are off to a shaky start in the season, the game is attracting attention and the average ticket price is $135. With both teams looking to gain Texas fans during the game, fans in San Antonio or traveling can also find great deals for the game. TicketCity’s starting price for the game is $38 per ticket.
