TicketCity Releases the Top 25 Hottest College Football Games
Preseason rankings and loyal fans are driving ticket prices high as Ohio State tops the list with the two hottest games of the season and Georgia dominates with the most games listed.
Austin, TX (Marketwire – August 28, 2008) -- With only a few days before the
college football season officially kicks off, demand for tickets to the hottest games continues to climb. Based on average price, games topping this year’s list include: Michigan at Ohio State, Ohio State at USC, Georgia at LSU, Alabama versus Clemson and Notre Dame at USC.
Michigan versus Ohio once again is among the top of the list before the season begins. This week last year, tickets to the game were selling for the same average of $748 per ticket. “It’s always interesting to look for trends in ticket pricing from year to year,” commented Randy Cohen, CEO for TicketCity. “The Michigan/Ohio State is always a big game but there seems to be a threshold on ticket prices before the season starts.”
Ticket demand also reflects Georgia’s historic preseason ranking. Of the 25 games listed, 6 consist of Georgia match-ups. “
Georgia traditionally has a strong fan base. That coupled with their high 1 ranking and we’re going to see demand continue to rise,” said Cohen.
The only game scheduled for Saturday to make the top 25 list is the match-up between
Alabama and Clemson. “Demand for these tickets skyrocketed in the last several weeks,” said Rafael Rivas, Vice President of Sales for TicketCity. “Listing at around $195 three weeks ago, the average price per ticket on the market is now around $480.”
Because Clemson is ranked well for the season and loyal Alabama fans show up for every game, demand for this game was expected. “Both Alabama and Clemson have incredible fans who are willing to travel. With each team able to fill their home stadiums with 80,000 plus fans, placing them together in a limited 70,000 capacity stadium has made demand go through the roof,” stated Rivas.
Overall SEC teams are the most in-demand games across the states. Among the 25 games listed, 15 involve an SEC team. “Traditionally fans of SEC teams are extremely loyal, will travel far to view their team, and demand is always high for their games. Unless there are major upsets in the season, tickets to SEC games will remain high,” said Rivas.
