Ticket Glossary

This glossary of common terms, abbreviations, and concepts from the ticket industry might prove valuable when trying to find tickets. Please contact us if you have further questions.

Definition
4-pack A group of four seats together.
Aisle Seats Seats located on the end of a row, next to the aisle. Allow for easy access to your seats.
Badge Another form of a ticket that gains you entry to an event. The Masters golf tournament calls their passes, badges.
BBB Better Business Bureau. TicketCity has been a member in good standing for more than 10 years.
Box Office (BO) The location at the venue where tickets are distributed. Often the local of the venue will-call ticket window.
Broker A ticket broker.
Burners Tickets you use to get in to an event, when you don't plan to sit in those same seats. Just used to enter the building, but with no plans to sit in those seats. People often use them if they have access to a suite, but not a ticket to sit in it.
Consignment Consignment tickets are sold on behalf of someone else.  
Face Value The actual price that is printed on a ticket.
Facility Fee An additional fee on your ticket, often added by the primary ticket distributor.
Fan Club Artists typically have a fan club that you can join to get access to special ticket offers, or ticket pre-sales.
Floor Seats Seats located on the floor at an event.
General Admission Show A performance where there are no reserved seats. You will not have an assigned seat.
Get Ins The lowest price tickets for an event. They typically offer the bare minimum view of the event.
Gold Circle Seats Some venues or shows label their premium seats as Gold Circle. Not used for all venues or shows.
Handling Fee An additional fee on your ticket, often added by the primary ticket distributor.
Hospitality Additional options at an event that might include food & beverage. Hospitality often includes special food & drink options for free, or at a discounted price.
In-Hand Tickets are ready to ship.
In-Stock Tickets are ready to ship.
Intermission Period between the acts at a theatre production or show.
Invoice Number Your assigned order number. Please refer to your invoice number whenever you contact TicketCity with questions.
Local Pick Up A ticket order that must be picked up at the venue for the event.
Luxury Box Also known as a luxury suite or suite. Exclusive area at an event that offers a great view and typically is fully catered. Make sure you inquire whether the catering cost is included in your luxury suite, when buying from TicketCity.
Market Value The price a ticket is sold at above face value. Market value is determined by what consumers are willing to pay for tickets (supply & demand).
Mezzanine An upper-level of the venue.
No Oddlot A group of tickets that only can be sold in even increments (2, 4, 6), not sold in odd numbers (1, 3, 5).
No Splits A group of tickets that cannot be split up. They must be purchased as a group.
Obstructed View View of the event may be obstructed. If you have questions, please contact us prior to purchasing tickets.
On-Sale The public distribution of tickets from the box office. Ticketmaster typically schedules on-sales for hot events on Saturday morning.
On-Site Pickup A ticket order that must be picked up at the venue for the event.
Order Number Your assigned invoice number. Please refer to your invoice number whenever you contact TicketCity with questions.
Parking Pass Access to a reserved parking area at the venue.
Personal Seat License (PSL) Certificate of ownership of certain seats in a venue.
Piggyback seats Tickets that have the same seat number in two adjacent rows.
Pre-Sale Ticket pre-sales occur when the box office sells a set number of tickets prior to the public on-sale.
Price Per Ticket The price paid on one ticket. All prices listed on the TicketCity website are the price per ticket.
Primary Ticket Market The original distributor of tickets for an event.
Quantity Number of tickets available.
Reserved Seating A performance where there are assigned seats.
Row The location of your seat within the section. Low rows are desirable at many events; just not racing events.
Season Ticket Holder A person who owns seats for every game or event for a particular team or venue.
Season Tickets Tickets that are purchased year-after-year and located in the same location for every game or event.
Seat Number The location of your ticket within your row.
Seating Chart Venue map to help illustrate the location of tickets.
Secondary Ticket Market Ticket resellers.
Section The physical location of your seat within the venue.
Service Charge An additional charge that is added to the subtotal price of the tickets.
Session One particular timeframe for an event. For example, the Final Four has two sessions - a Saturday session that includes two games, and Monday's session when the Championship Game is played. When buying tickets make sure you notice if they include one particular session or all sessions.
Single A single ticket that is being sold by itself.
Sold Out When no more tickets are available at the box office.
SRO (Standing Room Only) A performer or area of a venue that has no assigned seating. You must find space and stand the entire event.
Stage Setup The arrangement of the stage within the venue. The stage setup often varies for different performers.
Strip A group of tickets.
Suite Also known as a luxury suite or luxury box. Exclusive area at an event that offers a great view and typically is fully catered. Make sure you inquire whether the catering cost is included in your suite, when buying from TicketCity.
Ticket Auction Tickets that are sold to the highest bidder.
Ticket Book A group of tickets
Ticket Broker Someone who can legally resell tickets for an event. TicketCity is a ticket broker.
Ticket Marketplace A location that allows ticket buyers and sellers to meet up to sell tickets.
Ticket Stub The portion of the ticket that is returned to you, after they rip your ticket to enter the venue.
Ticketfast (TF) E Tickets, Paper Tickets, Paperless Tickets
Venue The building that hosts the event.
Will-Call The pickup location for your tickets. The venue will call is a common place to pickup tickets for an event. The venue will call will be clearly labeled, and located near the ticket window.
Wristband Used to identify people at shows who have a special seating location. Or who can access a VIP area.
