The Top 25 Hottest Tickets in College Football Week 5

The Top 25 Hottest Tickets in College Football

Opening weekend losses by Notre Dame, Michigan & Tennessee shake up the top of the list.  Penn State versus Notre Dame falls from leading position to #8 on the list while Florida surges to the top.

Austin, TX September 4, 2007 -- The 2007 college football season opens and a few surprise results in the first weekend's games shake up the list of the top 25 hottest games.  The most significant changes in pricing are on games involving Notre Dame and Michigan, who both lost their opening game.  The average price on Notre Dame's game at Penn State dropped almost $200 per ticket, from $756 last week to $568 this week.  At #4 on the list just a month ago, the average price for a ticket to the Michigan vs Notre Dame game is at its lowest point in four weeks at $318 per ticket.

"Every year there are some early season upsets that shake up demand," says Randy Cohen, CEO of TicketCity.com.  "Michigan's loss has only a slight affect on prices so far for their games.  If they continue to struggle, or lose again, it will definitely impact demand their big games later in the season."

Regarding Notre Dame, Cohen comments, "Notre Dame is still a big draw no matter what their record is.  I expect demand for their games to stay high.  People want to see their team play the Irish."  Another cause of the average drop in ticket price for Penn State and Notre Dame, Cohen says, is "the timing of the game.  Ticket resellers who might have been holding out to sell at higher prices realize it's game week and dropped their prices to move their inventory.  But, it is still one of the hottest games of the year."

One team that did not falter on opening weekend and is red hot right now is the Florida Gators.  The defending champion's game at LSU is now the top game in the country.  Over the past four weeks, the game moved from #22 to #18 to #4 and now to #1 on the list.  The Gators are playing in three of the top five hottest games in college football.  With LSU as number one, the Gators game versus Georgia is 4th while their game at South Carolina is 5th.  In addition, Florida's game against Florida State ranks 13th on the list and their game versus Auburn ranks 18th on the list.  The Gators rivalry against Tennessee drops from the top 25 list after the Volunteers lost their season opener to Cal.

"Florida is a hot team right now," states Rafael Rivas, Vice President of Sales at TicketCity.com.  "They are an exciting team to watch, and everyone wants to be the team that knocks down the defending national champs.  With both the Gators and LSU among the top five in the polls (AP & USA Today), their game at Death Valley should only continue to get more popular." The current average ticket price for the October 6th Florida versus LSU game is $720, which is up from $670 last week and $405 a month ago.

TicketCity.com releases this week's (September 4th) list of the top 25 hottest games of 2007 based on average ticket price.  The list was accumulated by compiling a majority of the available tickets on the secondary market throughout the entire country.  The secondary market is comprised of over 800 established ticket brokers, and every fan who is listing extra tickets to sell.

The top five games on the "Hottest Ticket" list are: LSU versus Florida, Notre Dame versus USC, Ohio State at Michigan, Georgia versus Florida and Florida at South Carolina.  Only the first three of those games were ranked in the top 5 on last week's list.  Alabama/LSU, Texas/Oklahoma, Penn State/Notre Dame, South Carolina/Clemson and Nebraska/USC round out the top 10.

Convincing wins by top programs such as LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, USC and Cal push demand for their games higher.  As the teams in the top 25 list with the greatest increases in average ticket price, LSU/Florida increases by $50,  Georgia/Florida by $65, Texas/OU by $30, USC/UCLA by $30 and CAL/USC by $38.

"This is the best time of the year in college football.  The new season is underway and lots of teams still have high hopes for a National Championship," says Cohen. "People want to get out and be a part of the excitement.  I don't see demand slowing down any time soon for most of these games."

Prices will continue to fluctuate throughout the 2007 season and TicketCity.com will continue to update the hottest games list from week-to-week.  View the top 25 games list on the TicketCity.com web site at http://www.ticketcity.com/Top-25-Games.html.
