The Kentucky Oaks is a horse race that takes place the day before the Kentucky Derby. The Oaks is raced every year on the first Friday in May, with the Derby the following day. It is raced at the famed Churchill Downs race track in Louisville, Kentucky.
Many residents of Louisville, and the surrounding area, refer to the Kentucky Oaks as their Derby day. They attend the Kentucky Oaks on Friday, but then host Kentucky Derby parties at their own homes on Saturday. This allows them to enjoy the great horse racing live, but then avoid the crowds on Saturday when so many visitors arrive for the Kentucky Derby.
The Kentucky Oaks is a stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbreds. The Oaks horses race over 1 1/8 miles at Churchill Downs. The Oaks dates back to the earliest days of Churchill Downs, and the first running was held May 19, 1875.
The Kentucky Oaks was once viewed as the lead-in race to the Derby. But now that perception has changed as the Oaks has become nearly as popular as the Derby. Attendance at the Kentucky Oaks is usually second only to the Derby, surpassing attendance at the Preakness Stakes, the Belmont Stakes, and the Breeders Cup. So buy your Kentucky Oaks tickets today and experience this great American horse race live!
Each year TicketCity has a local presence at the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby in order to assist our clients with ticket pickup and additional purchases. Kentucky Oaks is a Fabulous Time! It used to be that the Oaks lived in the shadow of the Kentucky Derby but that is no longer the case! I was thrilled to be able to attend and would highly recommend going this year! Even if you aren’t a horse racing fan, you’ll still love the people watching and the partying. Grab a big straw hat and your best dress (or suit) and head to Kentucky for the best weekend of the year. Even if you don’t win a bet on the races, you’ll still get to enjoy the friendly southern culture and a mint julep! February 22, 2012
Dressed in Pink The Kentucky Oaks is run the day before the Kentucky Derby, It is one of the final races of the day and is all Lady Horses racing. The experience is very close to the Derby just a few less people at Churchhill Downs. Everyone dresses up. The ladies are all wearing the Beautiful hats. The only difference is most people include Pink in thier dress and the prices are about 1/3 the price of the Derby. This is the best value and highly recommended way to enjoy a day a Churchill Downs. Kentucky Oaks The service was the best I had ever received from an on line company. Scott was a great representative for the company. Very helpful in helping me find the tickets I needed for the budget I had. I will use and suggest to all my friends. Thanks again. May 8, 2011
