Irving, once just a suburb in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, has grown to be one of the top 15 cities in Texas in terms of population. While the Cowboys are now down the road in Arlington, Irving is now most famous sport-wise for the HP Byron Nelson Champions that is hosted at the Four Seasons Resort and Club – also known as TPC Las Colinas. Past champions of the tournament include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Else and its namesake Byron Nelson won the first one in 1944.
Also in the Irving area are the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks. The Cowboys moved from Texas Stadium in Irving to the newly built AT&T Stadium in Arlington in 2009. The Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas was also recently built in Irving, as serves as a multi-purpose facility.
The DFW International Airport is also partly in Irving and was the fourth busiest airport in the world in 2010 and is the second biggest airport in the United States.
