The Kansas Jayhawks football team has recently begun to seriously challenge its basketball program in national attention. The team began its 2007 season with an incredible winning streak, finding its way into the top 10. Playing in the Big 12, and formerly the Big Eight, Kansas has won four conference titles and had eleven All-Americans on its roster. Under the leadership of coach Mark Mangino, the 2007 season looks to provide the Jayhawks with a chance to expand that list further.
Head Coach Mark Mangino will lead his University of Kansas Jayhawks out on the big field with hopes of repeating last year's stellar season. With a 12-1 record and a huge win at the Orange Bowl, the Jayhawks solidified their name in Big 12 Conference. The Jayhawks will have plenty of pressure to repeat last year's accomplishments, however, as the Jayhawks play a tougher schedule this year. They will face Big 12 heavy-hitters including Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech, replacing last year's Big 12 lineup of Oklahoma State, Texas A&M and Baylor.
The Jayhawks will be looking to their quarterback, Todd Reesing, to be swift and crafty to keep the ball moving downfield. You can bet he will be hitting the endzone via Dexton Fields or Dezmon Briscoe in no time. Also, Kansas' defense is looking strong as ever, with returning starters Joe Mortensen, Russell Brorsen and Aqib Talib. The Kansas Jayhawks play in the very competitive Big 12 conference and have a history rich in talent and rivalries. First fielding a football team in 1890, Kansas’ main rival is Missouri, playing the yearly Border Showdown, the longest played college rivalry west of the Mississippi River. The Kansas Jayhawks play their home games at the University of Kansas Memorial Stadium. The seventh oldest college field in the nation and the first to be built west of the Mississippi, Memorial Stadium holds just over 50,000 spectators.
