Houston Astros Tickets Information

The Astros have fielded some very impressive teams through more than five decades of Major league baseball. The first seven seasons of Houston baseball were a struggle. Of the 10 teams in the National League, the Astros finished no better than eighth for all seven seasons. In 1969 Houston finished the season with a .500 record, and in 1972 the franchise finally recorded its first winning season. In 1980 the Astros won their first division title and made the playoffs for the first time with a pitching rotation headed by stars Joe Niekro and Nolan Ryan. Houston’s postseason run was halted before the World Series by the Philadelphia Phillies, who won the NLCS series in five games. The following season the Astros again were knocked out of the playoffs earlier than they would have wanted to, falling to the Los Angeles Dodgers. After another playoff appearance in 1986, Houston next had a run of success in the late 1990s. From 1997 to 2001 the Astros won four division titles in a five-year span with all-time Houston greats Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell, yet not only didn’t the team win a playoff series, but only won two total games in the four postseason series. In 2005 the Astros made it to their first World Series, but finished just short of winning the title. Houston has retired the numbers of nine players from their history. 2015 Astros Season Preview

After a number of years finishing at the bottom of their respective division, the Houston Astros started to show signs of improving in 2014. The Astros still finished the season 22 games under .500, but were 4th in a very strong AL West. The Astros young players and farm system have started to pay dividends and the Astros are shaping up to make a run at October in the next 5 years.

The 2015 Houston Astros look to continue that upward trend and move closer to the top of the AL West. The offseason saw the Houston Astros add Hank Conger, Jed Lowrie, James Hoyt, and Colby Rasmus. Conger and Lowerie are expected to make immediate impacts and should help rising stars Jose Altuve, and Alex Presley gradually turn the Astros into contenders. The Houston Astros look to be an exciting team to watch in 2015 and could be one of the surprises in the American League.

Houston Astros Rivals

Astros vs. Cardinals

This game is sadly one of the major casualties of realignment in MLB. From 1996 to 2006, these two teams won 10 of 11 NL Central titles, and met in the NLCS twice. During that span the Astros and Cardinals combined for three World Series appearances, and were often 1 and 2 in the NL Central. With the Astros moving to the AL West, this series is now only on the schedule for interleague play. The games are still exciting, but not quite the same.

The Lone Star Series was first played in 2001 as an annual interleague matchup and has evolved into a divisional rivalry with the Astros moving to the AL West. The winner of the series is awarded the “Silver Boot” which is one of the best rivalry trophies in MLB. These two teams have shared more than the baseball hearts in Texas, some of both clubs most iconic players have played for Rangers and the Astros, including Nolan Ryan, Lance Berkman and Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez.

Astros vs. Cubs

These former NL Central rivals produced some of the best games over the last two decades. For years this rivalry was known for a few things, intensity, and pitching. With names like Carlos Zambrano, Roy Oswalt, Kerry Wood, and Andy Pettitte pitching some of the best games of their career in this matchup. Although no longer a divisional rivalry, this is still one of the most exciting matchups whenever it appears on the interleague schedule.

Houston Astros in the World Series, League Championship Series and MLB Playoffs

The Houston Astros have been an organization since 1965, spending their entire existence in the National League until moving to the American League in 2013. The Astros are still searching for their first World Series title, but won their only NL pennant in 2005. Over the years, Houston has won over 5 division titles and will only add to that title in the upcoming seasons.

Astros + TicketCity = winning Thank you to Ticketcity for making one of my dreams come true - I got to see the Astros play the Yankees in Houston. The prices on Ticketcity were better than every other site I checked. When I called after the order the agent I spoke to was polite and professional. I loved the service and will definitely buy from them again. The game was good too - one last chance to see the great Derek Jeter. Houston won, but it didn't matter because just being there was worth it. April 22, 2014
