The Marlins are one of the youngest teams in Major League Baseball, joining the big leagues in 1993 as the Florida Marlins. The Marlins have had a very turbulent history for it being such a short one. After posting losing records in each of the franchise’s first four seasons, Florida kicked it into a new gear for the 1997 season. The Fish won 92 games to secure the National League Wild Card. Moises Alou, Bobby Bonilla and Kevin Brown led the charge for the Marlins, who swept the Los Angeles Dodgers and knocked off the Atlanta Braves in six games to face the Cleveland Indians in the World Series. The World Series went to a Game 7, and lasted 11 innings before the Marlins were finally crowned as champions. The following season Florida went from a 92-win team to a 54-win club, finishing last in the division. Success escaped the Marlins until the 2003 season, when Derrek Lee and Mike Lowell powered the Fish to the playoffs. After disposing of the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs, the Marlins defeated the New York Yankees in six games to secure their second World Series title. Since 2003 the Marlins have had very talented rosters, but have not returned to the postseason. Miami has not retired any former player’s number. The Marlins play their home games at Marlins Park, located in Miami, Florida. When filled to capacity, Marlins Park holds 37,00 screaming fans. The brand-new state-of-the-art stadium is a spectacle for fans and should be on every MLB fanatic’s list of destinations. Most notable about the park is the giant home run sculpture in center field, that lights up and moves after the Marlins hit a home run. The Miami Marlins dugout is on the Marlins Park third base line in front of sections 19-22. Marlins Park parking information is covered in our Marlins event guide.
Marlins vs. Mets
One of the better rivalries in the National League, this matchup has been superb because both clubs have been competitive at the same times. The rivalry really gained steam in the early 2000’s with both clubs making a World Series appearance, and consistently battling for the NL East title or NL Wild Card spot. Since then, both clubs have fallen from the elite of the national league, but this game has remained interesting because the tension has remained. There is little love lost between these clubs as they consistently provide the fans with great baseball.
Marlins vs. Phillies
These divisional rivals have produced some of the most iconic teams over the last two decades. Since 1997, the Marlins and Phillies have combined for four World Series appearances and three championships. During that span these two clubs went to the postseason over half a dozen times and have both been in the top 3 in the division on many occasions. These teams have often been known for having great pitching with names like Lee, Halladay, Beckett, Willis, and Hamels making appearances in this series.
Miami Marlins in the World Series, National League Championship Series and MLB Playoffs
In their history, the Miami Marlins have built multiple World Series championship teams. The Marlins became a franchise in 1993 and after struggling their first few seasons, Miami earned their first trip to the postseason in 1997 as a Wild Card team. The Marlins won the NL pennant that season along with their first World Series title. After dismantling the team and rebuilding from scratch, Miami earned another trip to the playoffs as a Wild Card team in 2007. The Marlins won the NL pennant again along with their second World Series title in that season.

Miami Marlins 2 2
First Time to Marlins Stadium. On Sunday June 2nd I went to Marlins Stadium to see the Braves vs. Marlins. I am a huge Braves fan. I was down in Miami on vacation and had to see Atlanta as they were in town for a weekend series. The new facility is extremely nice. The dome kept the stadium at a nice cool temperature. There was a chance for rain that day but there was no concern as the roof to the stadium was closed. I sat in the lower level and had a great view of the field. Overall, there was not a bad seat in the house. What I really enjoyed most about the stadium is that The Clevelander is located right past the outfield. I am from Maryland, where there is nothing even close to that setup. I wish that more stadiums had a setup of a bar/pool area. It was especially neat to visit The Clevelander, since it was right next to the visitor's bullpen. The new stadium is extremely nice and I will be sure to visit it again next time I am in the area. It's definitely an experience that everyone should have. June 3, 2014
