Seattle Mariners Ticket Information

The Mariners made their Major League debut for the 1977 season. The early years of Seattle baseball were a struggle for the franchise. The Mariners finished no better than sixth of seven in the American League West for their first five years of existence. In 1991 Seattle finally broke through and recorded its first winning season in franchise history—just 14 years after its inaugural season. In 1995 the Mariners reached their next milestone, reaching the postseason for the first time in franchise history. Led by Tino Martinez, Edgar Martinez, Ken Griffey Jr. and Randy Johnson, the Mariners defeated the New York Yankees in a decisive Game 5 to advance to the ALCS, where they eventually fell to the Cleveland Indians. After missing the playoffs the following season, Seattle reached the playoffs in three of five years with a collection of talent that included Alex Rodriguez and Ichiro Suzuki. Following the 2001 season, the Mariners did not make another postseason appearance, despite two 90-plus-win seasons in the early 2000s. Despite missing out on the playoffs, that era of Seattle baseball remained highly competitive thanks to Suzuki’s All-Star play. No Mariner has had his number retired as of yet. Seattle Mariners Rivals

Mariners vs. Athletics

This divisional rivalry really gained traction in the early 2000’s, with both teams being among the best in the American League. This matchup has been interesting because of the similar style teams that these clubs have produced. In the last decade, both clubs have relied on great pitching, and a balanced hitting attack to score runs and win games. It is not often that two teams have been built with such similar philosophies in the same division.

Mariners vs. Orioles

This rivalry is built on two key moments in the early and late 1990’s. The first was one of the nastiest brawls in recent memory when Bill Hasselman charged Mike Mussina after being hit by a pitch in 1993. This one even led to much bad blood, and a lot of great baseball through the middle of the 1990’s. The tension culminated in the 1997 ALDS in which both teams had all-time great players such as Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken Jr., Alex Rodriguez, and Rafeal Palmeiro.

Mariners vs. Rangers

This rivalry became prominent in the mid 1990’s with a stretch from 1995-2001 where the Rangers and Mariners combined for 6 of 7 AL West titles and were often within a few games of each other in the last months of the season. The Rivalry has cooled over the last couple years, but with both the Mariners and Rangers holding some of the best farm systems in the majors, look for this rivalry to regain its importance in the AL West pennant race in the near future.

Seattle Mariners in the World Series, American League Championship Series and MLB Playoffs

The Seattle Mariners have been a part of the American League since 1977 with the most success coming in the mid to late 1990s. The Mariners finally won their first division title in 1995 being superstar outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. and ace pitcher Randy Johnson. Seattle won their second division title two years later behind the same stars. Seattle is still searching for their first AL pennant and World Series title. Overall, the Mariners have won more than 2 division titles and will only add to that number in the upcoming seasons.
