The Houston Dynamo have been perhaps the most successful franchise in Major League Soccer since the San Jose Earthquakes had their players and coaches transferred to the new Houston team in 2006. Although the team was to be named Houston 1836, it was soon changed to Houston Dynamo after protests from the Latin community in Houston that saw “1836” as a reference to the Texas independence from Mexico.
Houston kicked off its inaugural season in 2006 with a 5-2 win over the Colorado Rapids at the University of Houston’s Robertson Stadium, led by Dwayne DeRosario and Brian Ching and Dominic Kinnear as manager. Wins over the L.A. Galaxy and New York Red Bulls during the regular season put the Dynamo in the playoffs where they powered past Chivas USA and the Rapids before beating the New England Revolution in penalty kicks to win the 2006 MLS Cup.
The next year was like a replay of 2006, where the Dynamo again reached the MLS Cup to beat the Revolution for their second consecutive championship. Since then, the Dynamo have made the playoffs every year except for 2010. In 2011 the Dynamo went back to the MLS Cup only to come away trophy-less as Landon Donovan put the Galaxy up 1-0 in the 72nd minute.
The Dynamo are now the proud owners of a soccer –specific stadium in BBVA Compass Stadium, which hosted its first match on May 12, 2012. The stadium has a capacity of 22,039 with a construction cost of $95 million. With an new stadium in a premium location new downtown Houston, the Dynamo have become as important to the city as the Astros, Rockets and Texans and hope to grow as the sport does all across the country.

Great Night Out with the Kids Our kids loved the game! Having never been to the stadium before we thought our seats were going to be near center, nosebleeds. What a great stadium! We were so close to the action even in the upper level sections. The energy in the stadium was incredible. A whole section of drums and horns going throughout the game - like what i'd imagine a real European football game would feel like. Would definitely go again! August 21, 2012
Great seats and great game Great seats and great game November 5, 2011
