If there's one sport that has taken off in the last decade it's mixed martial arts (MMA). A hybrid of boxing, kickboxing and wrestling, this rough sport pits some of the world's best and toughest athletes in a true test of strength and strategy. Though watching these highly anticipated bouts on television is an experience in itself, getting some MMA tickets and checking it out in person is the only way to truly appreciate the competitors’ fearlessness.
There have been a number of dominant fighters over the years, though few have been as successful as Fedor Emelianenko. The Russian heavyweight has an astounding 31-5 career record and is one of the most decorated fighters in the MMA. He held five separate major championships at the same time including the Heavyweight Grand Prix Championship and the World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts Heavyweight Championship.
While Emelianenko is regarded by some as one of the best of all time, Tito Ortiz may have a thing to say about that. The 36-year-old American was one of the original stars of the sports and helped popularize the Ultimate Fighting Championship along with Chuck Lidell.
MMA has also given the sports world some of the most memorable bouts in recent years. One of the most well-known, and financially successful, fights was between Lidell and Ortiz. Dubbed Lidell vs. Ortiz II, the fight took place on December 30, 2006. The two equally-matched foes fought until Lidell defended his title with a third-round TKO. The fight has become especially famous in MMA circles due to the fact that Lidell entered the match with a torn MCL, yet still managed to come out the victor.
