Atlanta Hawks Tickets Information

The Atlanta Hawks franchise was an inaugural member of the NBA, joining the league at its inception in 1949 as the Tri-City Blackhawks. The franchise moved around a lot early in its history, relocating to Milwaukee after two years and then to St. Louis after another four. In St. Louis the Hawks experienced its first success, reaching the finals in 1957 and then winning the title the following year thanks to the play of future Hall-of-Famer Bob Pettit. The Hawks remained a feared team in the NBA through the early 1970s, reaching two more NBA Finals and relocating to Atlanta over that time. In the 1980s the Hawks returned to prominence thanks to the high-flying ways of Dominique Wilkins. ‘Nique played a little more than a decade in Atlanta, leading the Hawks to the playoffs eight times, but never past the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The post-Wilkins era wasn’t immediately a failure, as players like Steve Smith and Dikembe Mutombo helped Atlanta reach six straight postseasons. After a long playoff drought that coincided with the new millennium, the Hawks returned to the playoffs with a core of Joe Johnson, Josh Smith and Al Horford. Atlanta has retired the numbers of four players in the team’s history. Score with TicketCity - the place to go for Atlanta Hawks basketball tickets.

2015 Hawks Season Preview

Even though the Atlanta Hawks finished the 2013-2014 NBA season below .500, the Hawks still had a successful year. Atlanta was the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference and surprised many by taking the number 1 seeded Indiana Pacers to 7 games.

This success should give the Atlanta Hawks confidence going into the Hawks 2014-15 schedule. Atlanta will have to compete this season without guard Lou Williams, who is now with the Toronto Raptors. But key additions of Thabo Sefolosha and extremely talented rookie Adreian Payne have the Hawks primed to take the next step in the Eastern Conference. The Atlanta Hawks will once again turn to Al Horford to lead the charge, but he will have help from veterans Elton Brand, and sharpshooting Kyle Korver. Look for the Atlanta Hawks to be one of the toughest teams in the East and for them to be greatly improved on the defensive end of the court.

Atlanta Hawks Rivals

Hawks vs. Celtics

A rivalry that has stretched over five decades that includes 350 regular season games and another 60+ playoff matchups. Always hostile and intense, this rivalry is one of the oldest in the NBA. The rivalry dates back to when Atlanta played in St. Louis and the two organizations met in the NBA finals 4 times in a five-year stretch.

Hawks vs. Bobcats

Geographically close and rivals in other sports, it is only natural for these two teams to not get along. Both teams usually play with a higher intensity level when they meet and bragging rights for the fan bases is always on the line. The two franchises have met over 35 times and this rivalry will only increase in the upcoming years.

Hawks vs. Pacers

A rivalry that heightened in the late 1980s with a playoff matchup, these two teams have faced each other over 190 times during their history. With multiple meetings in the playoffs, a number that will only increase in the years to come, the Hawks and Pacers often meet when the intensity level is at its highest. As both teams improve on the court, this rivalry will only get better.

Hawks in the NBA Finals, Eastern Conference Championships and NBA Playoffs

A member of the NBA since 1949, the Hawks have been a consistent performer in the league for over 50 years. The highlight of the organization came in the late 1950s and early 1960s as they dominated the NBA which resulted in an NBA championship in 1958. With multiple conference championships and division titles, the Hawks will only add to that number in the upcoming years.

Atlanta Hawks Event Guide

What time do gates open prior to tipoff for a Hawks game?

Doors open approximately 1 hour before game time at Philips Arena. The Hawks play an exciting up-tempo style of basketball. This energy starts early and Philips Arena is one of the most comfortable arenas in the NBA, making it well worth it to arrive to the game early.

Where are good places to eat before a Hawks game?

The Varsity Downtown is the perfect place to eat before any sporting event in Atlanta. It has been serving Atlanta’s sports fans since 1928 and is as much about the experience as it is the food. Another great option is the food court at CNN Center. There are a number of great dining options inside, but we recommend trying Dantanna’s or McCormick & Schmick’s. If you are looking for something a little trendier try Lunacy Black Market. Lunacy is comfortable, has a very reasonably priced menu, and is truly a unique dining experience. Other good places that are close are Stats and The Flying Biscuit Café.

Where is the best place to park at Philips Arena?

Directly across the street from Philips is the Centennial Garage. Centennial is the closest and easiest place to park for a Hawks game. It usually costs between $10 and $20 to park at Centennial or the Philips Arena Lot just down the road. There are other parking options on the east side of Centennial Olympic Park Drive. Marta offers a public transportation option and has a few stations within walking distance of the arena.

Does my child need a ticket to go to a Hawks game?

Children over 24 months old require a ticket to enter the game. Don’t forget to bring proof of your child’s age to the gate to avoid any last minute hassles.
