The Boston Celtics are one of the most successful and storied franchises in all of professional sports. The Celtics have won 17 NBA championships, 21 conference titles and 29 division titles throughout their illustrious history, and have been a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference.
The Celtics can point to two golden ages of playoff glory. During the late 50s and the majority of the 1960s, the team dominated the NBA behind the strength of Hall of Famer Bill Russell and the coaching know-how of Red Auerbach. Still, while the team took home NBA titles in 1974 and 1976, the Celtics wouldn't begin another dynasty until the mid-80s. This decade is revered for the incredible playoff games that resulted from the Los Angeles Lakers and Celtic rivalry as well as playmakers like Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish, all of whom bested the heavily favored Lakers in a number of NBA Finals.
More recently, the Celtics returned to the Promised Land during the 2008 season thanks to the prowess of "The Big Three." Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen joined Paul Pierce to form one of the best trios in professional basketball, and it paid off during the 2008 Finals when the squad won its 17th championship over the Lakers. The Celtics would return to the Finals in 2010, but the Lakers had their revenge and handed the team a heartbreaking loss in Game 7.
