The Charlotte Hornets are the NBA's newest franchise, joining the league for the 2004-2005 season. The Bobcats' arrival in Charlotte marked a return to the city for professional basketball after the Hornets left for New Orleans in 2002. The team name was changed back to Hornets after the 2014 season. To begin the franchise on the right foot, the Bobcats make UConn center Emeka Okafor the second overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, going one pick after the Orlando Magic snapped up Dwight Howard. Okafor and the Bobcats struggled through their first season, winning just 18 games. With the addition of point guard Raymond Felton from North Carolina and the emergence of forward Gerald Wallace, the Bobcats won 33 games their third season in the NBA. The 2009-2010 season is still the best in Bobcats history. Wallace and guard Stephen Jackson combined for 39.3 points per game as Charlotte made its first NBA playoff appearance. Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic would sweep the Bobcats out of the first round, but it remains the franchise's best season. A new franchise, Charlotte has yet to retire any player's number. 2014 Hornets Season Preview
The 2013-14 season was a stellar year for the New Orleans Hornets (Bobcats). The Hornets (Bobcats) more than doubled their win total from the season before and finished the year with 43 wins and the number 7 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Charlotte got a tough draw in the Miami Heat in the first round, and played a tough series despite losing 0-4.
The success of last season has the Charlotte Hornets coming into the 2014-15 season with much anticipation. Key roster changes for the Hornets include the addition of Lance Stephenson and rookie P.J. Hairston. For the Hornets to move through their 2014-15 schedule and get back to the playoffs, they will once again need stellar play from Al Jefferson. Jefferson is one of the top low post scorers in the NBA and will be essential to Charlotte’s success. Look for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to take the next step in turning into an elite player for the Charlotte Hornets, and for the Hornets to be in playoff contention late in the season.

Hornets vs. Lakers
The Hornets have struggled through their history while the Lakers have been one of the more successful franchises in all of sports. However, when these two teams meet, the Hornets usually come out on the winning end. The teams may be on separate coasts, but Charlotte always gives Los Angeles everything they can handle in the games they play.
Hornets vs. Pelicans
With the Pelicans once playing in Charlotte, it is only natural for these two teams to be rivals. The Hornets were created two years after the move and a rivalry was immediately born between the two franchises. The Hornets and Pelicans have struggled on the court over the years, but the games are still intense as the Charlotte fans have not forgiven the Pelicans for relocating.
Hornets in the NBA Finals, Western Conference Finals and NBA Playoffs
The Hornets are still looking for the consistency needed to be considered one of the more successful franchises in the NBA. Charlotte joined the NBA in 2004 and they have only made the playoffs once over the years. With a young team, the Hornets are hopeful that their success on the court will start to turn around.
Charlotte Hornets Event Guide
When do gates open prior to tipoff at a Hornets game?
Doors typically open 60 to 90 minutes before game-time and we advise you to be there early to skip the crowds and to ensure that you find your seat before the game starts.
Where are good places to eat before a Hornets game?
If you are in North Carolina you have to try the southern comfort food. Mert’s Heart and Soul, The King’s Kitchen, and Simmons Soul Food are three of the best in Charlotte. If you are a barbeque fan, don’t miss out on visiting Queen City Q. For an unforgettable dining experience, try McNinch House. It is located in a turn of the century Victorian home and has an unbelievably albeit expensive menu that is perfect for those looking to make dinner a special occasion. For more down to earth dining, try Fuel Pizza, Green’s Lunch, or Halcyon Flavors of the Earth.
Where is the best place to park at Time Warner Cable Arena?
The area around the arena is full of parking options and it is usually pretty easy to find a spot. For shorter walks we recommend looking on the east and southeast corners of the arena, as that is where three of the largest lots are located. If you are looking to save a little money and don’t walking, try looking on N Church Street, as there are a few good options in that area and only about a 15 minute walk to the arena.
Does my child need a ticket to go to a Hornets game?
Children 2 years old and older are required to have a ticket to enter Time Warner Cable Arena. If your child is under 2 years old they will be allowed to sit on your lap for the duration of the game. To ensure that they are allowed to enter the arena, don’t forget to bring proof of his/her age.
