Professional basketball returned to Charlotte, North Carolina, during the 2004 season when the Bobcats took the court for the first time. While the team has only made the playoffs once during their brief tenure, they have created a solid foundation that will likely be a factor in their race for an NBA title. The team changed its name from the Bobcats to the Hornets after the 2013-14 season.
The Bobcats made it to the postseason for the first time during the 2009-10 season behind the strength of Theo Ratliff, Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton and Tyrus Thomas. Unfortunately, the surging Bobcats encountered the Orlando Magic in the playoffs and were quickly swept in four games due to the overwhelming prowess of Magic guard Jameer Nelson.
The Bobcats suffered during the 2010-11 season and ended up missing out on a chance to make the playoffs once again. Still, most fans will agree that the team has made strides and is likely looking to capture the franchise's first postseason win in the near future.
