The Dallas Mavericks have been a force to be reckoned with ever since they entered the league in 1980. The proof of this may best lie in the team's postseason highlights - the squad has 17 playoff appearances, three division championships and one NBA championship under its belt. Much of the franchise's success has taken place during the 2000s, but it has been a constant struggle for the Mavs in the playoffs and the team has continually left its fans on the edge of their seats.
The Mavericks rode on the strength of power forward Dirk Nowitski through much of their playoff appearances in the 2000s, and it wasn't until the arrival of point guard Jason Kidd that the team started to click on all cylinders. The Mavericks faced the Miami Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals, but fell in six games.
The Mavericks finally stepped up during the 2010-11 season as they cruised through the playoffs to their first NBA title. They faced the Miami Heat in the Finals again, but overwhelmed their competitor's superstar roster to capture the championship. After making the playoffs from 2001-2011, Mavericks fans finally had a banner to hoist to the rafters in the American Airlines Center.
