The Heat began playing basketball in 1988 as an expansion franchise. Wins were few and far between for Miami early on, as the Heat set the record for futility by losing 17 straight games to begin the franchise's existence. Miami made strides in the 1991-92 season, making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. In 1997 Miami started a run of four straight Atlantic Division titles, going head to head in what became a very heated rivalry with the New York Knicks. Miami was led by a pair of stars in Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway, with additional production coming from budding stars P.J. Brown and Jamal Mashburn, and a grizzled veteran in Dan Majerle. The Heat would only get as far as the Eastern Conference Finals once in those four years, being thwarted by the Knicks in each of the other three. In 2006 Miami won its first NBA title, riding Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal to a 4-2 series victory over the Dallas Mavericks. The Heat are now again at the top of the basketball world, sporting big three of Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh. By pairing reliable veterans with that trio, Miami has won back-to-back NBA championships. Score with TicketCity - the place to go for Miami Heat basketball tickets.
2015 Heat Season Preview
The Miami Heat finished the 2013 NBA season in bittersweet fashion. The 2-time defending champion Heat won the Eastern Conference finals for a 4th straight season. But the Heat showed the fatigue of appearing in 4 straight NBA Finals and were quickly dismantled by a San Antonio Spurs team hitting on all cylinders. Following the season LeBron James announced that he would be leaving the Miami Heat, putting an end to the “big 3” era in South Beach.
Despite the loss of one of the best players in the history of the game, the Miami Heat are still one of the strongest contenders in the Eastern Conference in 2014. The Heat added veterans Luol Deng, Danny Granger, and Josh McRoberts who drastically improve the Heat’s depth. Miami also picked up Shabazz Napier in the draft who has the possibility to step in right away in the Heat’s backcourt. Look for Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh to take a much greater roll on the offensive side of the glass and for Wade to play increased minutes from last year. While they might not be a lock for the finals like the last 4 season, the Miami Heat have a chance to spread the load around to an improved all-around team in 2014.

Heat vs. Celtics
The last few seasons this rivalry has intensified as both teams have met in the playoffs. With stars often filling both rosters, this matchup has become must see. Both franchises have taken turns dominating the NBA and with the many playoff meetings, the stakes are always at the highest when these two teams play.
Heat vs. Knicks
This rivalry intensified in the mid-90s when these two teams met in the playoffs four years in a row. Rated as one of the best rivalries in the NBA, this matchup has been highlighted by physical play and an intensity level that is hard to match. The bad blood started when head coach Pat Riley joined the Heat after leading the Knicks for many seasons.
If you like two teams and fan bases that hate each other, then this is the matchup for you. This rivalry has been about physical play and often times playing after the whistle has been blown. This rivalry has picked up steam in recent seasons and will only continue to get better in the years to come.
Heat vs. Magic
As state rivals, it is only natural for these two teams to not get along. With over 95 games played including a playoff matchup, this rivalry continues to get better and is often filled with intense and physical play games. With icon Shaquille O'Neal playing for both franchises throughout his career, the connection between these two teams stretch farther than just playing in the same state.
Though the Heat and Bulls have been fighting for Eastern Conference supremacy since the early '90s, the rivalry has just recently began to peak. Becoming a consistent match up in the playoffs, the Miami Chicago rivalry is often an extremely physical game leading to trash-talk and in multiple occasions an ejection or two.
Heat in the NBA Finals, Eastern Conference Championships and NBA Playoffs
The Heat have been around since 1988 and have established themselves as one of the premier franchises in the NBA. Miami has 9+ division titles including a run of four straight from 1997-2000. With multiple conference and NBA championships, the Heat will only continue to add to a number that has put them in the discussion of top organization in the league.
