ATLANTA HAWKS
The Hawks, who arrived in Georgia in 1968 after crisscrossing the country a number of times, have enjoyed 26 playoff appearances throughout their history and two appearances in the conference finals. This may be exactly why the team has given their fans in the Peach State plenty to be excited about despite having yet to bring a title home to Atlanta.
The franchise won their only championship in 1958 against the Boston Celtics during their time in St. Louis, and won five consecutive conference titles in 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960 and 1961. The team also finished the 1967- 68 season in first place and entered the playoffs looking strong, but they fell shockingly early in the first round to the San Francisco Warriors.
Coach Hubie Brown helped the team overcome a long stretch of postseason struggles in 1979 when they brought home the division title, but the winning streak slowed until 1986 when the Hawks came back strong. This time they had Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins in their arsenal, who brought them close to the Finals in 1988, but they fell short. In 2008, the organization qualified for the playoffs for the first time after a dismal nine-year stretch. It wasn't until 2010, when the franchise promoted former assistant Larry Drew to head coach, that the team finally reached the conference semifinals in 2011.
