Roundball RoadTrip - Chicago Bulls As part of my Roundball RoadTrip I took in a Chicago Bulls game at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois in January of 2011. The “Madhouse on Madison” is an incredible place to watch some NBA Basketball. As you walk up to Gate 2, a twelve foot tall statue of Michael Jordan about to unleash one of his signature dunks is stands at the door. Along with paying homage to the greatest NBA player that ever lived, it also makes for a great photo opportunity. The arena itself is impressive, as you walk into the seating area your attention is immediately turned to the six NBA championship banners that hang in the rafters as a reminder of those great Chicago Bulls dynasties of the 1990’s. I was also impressed by the quality and variety of concessions available at the United Center. Freshly prepared shrimp po' boy sandwiches, carved turkey and smoke beef brisket sandwiches and Chicago-style deep dish pizza along with a wide array of other options await you at United Center concession stands. One thing I was warned about by several locals is that the area around the United Center is not the safest area in the city. However, I noticed before and after the game that lots of Bulls fans flocked to the nearby pubs and taverns to hang out. I also noticed a strong Police presence in the area on game day as well. My advice is to be aware of your surroundings if you're planning to hang out. Madison Street, which runs along the United Center, has lots of great bars and restaurants for pre and post game entertainment, but to check out a local Chicago legend, you’ll want to grab a "cheezborger" at the Billy Goat Tavern. The Billy Goat Tavern is famous for two reasons. Back in the 1970’s John Belushi did a skit on Saturday Night Live based on its cook staff, but much earlier than that, in the 1940’s, it was the owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, William “Billy Goat" Sianis that placed a curse on the Chicago Cubs because they wouldn’t allow him to take his goat into Wrigley Field. For more information on what to see and do in the city of Chicago and about the Legend of "The Billy Goat Curse”, check out my review at http://www.nbabasketballarenas.com/United-Center-Jan11.htm. A must go! Everyone should go to a Bulls game at least once in their lifetime. Once the music plays for the starting lineup, you get chills up and down your spine. It is definitely well worth it and you'll have an unbelievable time. February 24, 2012

CHICAGO BULLS
The Chicago Bulls took a while to achieve a history-making performance, but when they did, they captured the attention of the world. The Bulls enjoyed one of the most legendary postseason runs in professional sports history during the 1990s, when the team won six championships and set a number of impressive records during the process.

The arrival of Michael Jordan in 1984 was the catalyst that sparked the team's success. Jordan had a standout group of players by his side during the Bulls' playoff domination, including Scottie Pippen, Steve Kerr, Dennis Rodman and a number of important role players. This remarkable crew managed to three-peat twice, once during the 1991-93 seasons and again from 1996-98.

After the overwhelming success of the mid-'90s, the Bulls had a tough time assembling another competitive roster, but they finally broke through in 2005. Still, it wasn't until 2011 that they were able to take home the division title, thanks to the strength of point guard Derrick Rose.
