HOUSTON ROCKETS
The Houston Rockets franchise has been in existence since 1967 and has enjoyed an unprecedented level of postseason success over that time span. The Rockets have made 25 playoff appearances, won four division championships and claimed the NBA title twice in 1994 and 1995.
When the team drafted Hakeem Olajuwon in 1984, no one could have expected just how big of an impact he would make in the postseason. The Rockets were instant contenders in the playoffs when he took the court, and he was one of the main reasons the Rockets were so competitive throughout the late '80s and early '90s.
The Rockets have sent nine players and coaches to the Hall of Fame, including Charles Barkley, Rick Barry, Clyde Drexler, Moses Malone and Hakeem Olajuwon. These players formed a winning foundation that allowed the squad to be consistent performers in the playoffs throughout much of their history.
The Rockets recaptured their former glory of the 1990s during the mid-2000s when they made the playoffs six times, but they were never able to overcome the multitude of top-quality teams in the Western Conference. After shipping off star Tracy McGrady following the 2009-10 season, the Rockets are likely looking to start from scratch to build another postseason contending team.
