MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES
The Memphis Grizzlies, originally formed as the Vancouver Grizzlies, made the move to Memphis before the 2001-02 season and quickly shed their losing ways to become a postseason contender in the Western Conference. Most will agree that the squad's time in Tennessee has treated them well -the Grizzlies have made the playoffs four times since the move and built a solid foundation of young talent.
Right from the get-go the team was a force to be reckoned with, especially after drafting center Pau Gasol in 2002, who went on to win Rookie of the Year honors. The franchise also got a positive start under the tutelage of Hall of Fame coach Hubie Brown, who finished his stellar career in Memphis and led the franchise to its first playoff appearance in 2004.
The Grizzlies' hard work paid off and they eventually made the 2004 playoffs thanks to the stellar play of Gasol, Mike Miller, James Posey and Shane Battier. However, the organization showed its inexperience by falling in four games to the San Antonio Spurs. The following two seasons were equally heartbreaking for the Grizzlies, as they were swept in the playoffs three years in a row.
The squad finally won their first postseason series by beating the San Antonio Spurs in six games during the 2010-11 season. The team's impressive run eventually ended against the Oklahoma City Thunder after a wild Game 7, but their improvement points toward more postseason success in the future.
