Orlando Magic Ticket Information

The Orlando Magic are a relatively young NBA team, joining the league for the 1989-90 season. After a few losing seasons the Magic’s fortunes changed, winning the NBA Draft Lottery and selecting LSU center Shaquille O’Neal. After winning the first pick again, the Magic pulled off a trade with the Golden State Warriors to land Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway. Shaq and Penny teamed to lead the Magic to their first playoff appearance in the 1993-94 season, and went all the way to the NBA Finals the following year. After O’Neal left the Magic to join the Los Angeles Lakers, the Magic’s production began a steady decline. Though Orlando made the playoffs five of the next seven years, they failed to win a single playoff series. After missing the playoffs for three straight seasons, the Magic returned to prominence on the broad shoulders of charismatic center Dwight Howard. Howard teamed with head coach Stan Van Gundy to lead Orlando to the NBA Finals in 2009, but they couldn’t get over the hump and win the franchise’s first championship. The Magic are currently rebuilding again after Howard was traded to the Lakers. Orlando has not retired any player’s number. 2014 Magic Season Preview

The Magic had the season they expected to have in 2012-13, finishing in last place in the Eastern Conference and winning only 20 games – lowest in the NBA. They’ve now embraced a youth movement, letting go of Al Harrington, JJ Redick and Beno Udrih while beginning to build the team around #2 overall pick Victor Oladipo. Arron Afflalo and Jameer Nelson are the veteran presence on the court, while Jacque Vaughn hopes to prove he was the man for the job sooner rather than later.

The Magic open up the season at the Amway Center against the Pelicans on Nov. 1, and will also play Brooklyn, the Clippers and Boston before their first away game in Atlanta. Other key home games will be vs. the defending-champion Miami Heat on Nov. 20, vs. San Antonio on Nov. 29, and then the Heat once again on Jan. 4.

Orlando Magic Rivals

Magic vs. Heat

It is only natural for two teams to be rivals that play in the same state. This rivalry increased when former Magic star Shaquille O'Neal joined the Heat and won a championship. The rivalry continued when former Heat assistant Stan Van Gundy became the head coach of the Magic. As for the games themselves, the contests are often intense and physical which makes this one of the better rivalries in the NBA.

Magic vs. Pistons

This rivalry was established because of a stretch of playoff meetings between the two teams over the years. The Pistons have held the upper hand in this matchup and with over 80 meetings, the games have always been hard fought and close. With both teams in the Eastern Conference, this rivalry will only continue to grow in the upcoming seasons.

Magic in the NBA Finals, Eastern Conference Championships and NBA Playoffs

With multiple Eastern Conference Championships and over 4 division titles, the Orlando Magic have established themselves as a successful franchise and will only continue to add to their totals in the years to come. The Magic have featured league stars such as Shaquille O'Neal and Dwight Howard since the franchise started in 1989.

Orlando Magic Event Guide

What time do gates open prior to tipoff at a Magic game?

Doors open to the general public 60 minutes before tipoff. This is plenty of time for you to grab some concessions, find your seat, and enjoy the pre-game shoot around.

Where are some good places to eat before the Magic game?

If you are in the mood to try something new, check out The Paradise Island Café. It is right across the street from Amway Center and has great Jamaican food. Only about six blocks away is Amura’s which touts some of the best sushi and Japanese cuisine you will find anywhere. For more traditional American food, try Hamburger Mary’s or Café Express. If you want to watch the pre-game on TV’s check out Graffiti Junktion or Harp and Celt Irish Pub and Restaurant.

Where is the best place to park at Amway Center?

Just to the south of the arena is the Geico garage, which offers a walkway right to the arena. This garage is usually reserved for parking passes and fills up quickly. There is another garage directly to the north of the arena, and a few open parking lots under the highway to the northeast. If you are looking to save some money there are cheaper parking options on Orange Ave north of Washington Street.

Does my child need a ticket to get into the game?

Children less than 36” tall get into the game for free and can sit on their parents lap. Be sure to measure your child before you leave to double check his/her height.

Great Game It was one of best time we had as a family. My kids loved it.One sad part was our team lost to San Antonio Spurs. I wish them good luck. I will be watching season. I will like to come back sometime with my family. January 21, 2012
My Trip to Orlando on the RoundBall RoadTrip Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida is a great place to catch an NBA game. There’s plenty of parking available in the parking decks that boarder the arena, and visitors will have no trouble finding a spot for their vehicle. Amway Arena is actually nestled into more of a suburban environment, but for the more adventurous I would suggest parking in the downtown area near one of the many bars and restaurants and then walking to Amway Arena. That way, at the end of the game when most fans are scrambling to their cars to beat the congestion, you can take a leisurely stroll back downtown and grab a bite to eat or a nightcap as the arena traffic clears. The pregame activities at Amway Arena are actually worth getting there early for as well. Several local area businesses and radio stations have booths setup for giveaways and contests. The Amway Arena staff also hosts a variety of games for the kids, including inflatable bounce houses. If you're on site early, I would also suggest entering the arena early. A couple of years ago, the Orlando Magic introduced a program to try to bolster local support for the team. They actually allow fans seated in any section to walk the periphery of the court during warm-ups up for to thirty minutes before game time. Fans are allowed to take photos, get autographs, and watch as their favorite players warm up. It was definitely worth the trouble of arriving early.
