2015 San Antonio Spurs Season Preview

After reaching back to back NBA Finals, the San Antonio Spurs title defense fell short last season, losing a thrilling 7 game series to the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round. San Antonio enters what could be the last season of future hall of famer Tim Duncan’s career, with maybe its most talented roster yet. The Spurs were able to attract superstar forward LaMarcus Aldridge to join what looks to be the best front court in the NBA. Aldridge will team up with Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard in what should be an unstoppable 3 headed monster. San Antonio was also able to ad reserve forward David West, who is yet another veteran presence who has experience winning in the playoffs. Despite the new talent, don’t expect the 2015-16 San Antonio Spurs team to come into the season with a different strategy. The Spurs will rely on team first basketball, and point guard Tony Parkers ability to generate points with his dribble penetration. Kawhi Leonard has evolved into one of the best defenders in the league, and has the ability to shut down just about any player in the NBA. Look for Gregg Popovich to keep his aging stars rested, sacrificing minutes in the regular season, for post season freshness. The San Antonio Spurs are contenders in a very packed Western Conference, and may be the favorites to win another NBA Finals in 2015-16.

2014 San Antonio Spurs Season Preview

The 2013-14 NBA season could not have gone better for the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs finished with the regular season with 62 wins, and the number 1 overall seed in the NBA Western Conference. San Antonio then went on to win the Western Conference, and dominate the Miami Heat in a rematch of the 2013 NBA Finals. The 2014 NBA championship was the 5th championship in the history of the San Antonio Spurs. With wire to wire dominating play by the San Antonio Spurs last season, the offseason was one of maintaining the roster that was already in San Antonio. The only key addition to the team is highly talented rookie Kyle Anderson, who will look to mentor under Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard. For the first time in many summers, Manu Ginobili did not participate in international play and should come into the 2014-15 NBA season as rested and fresh as he has been in some time. Tim Duncan, Danny Green, Tony Parker, and Tiago Splitter all return and the expectations could not be higher for the San Antonio Spurs. Expect Kawhi Leonard to take over more of a leadership role on the court and for the San Antonio Spurs to once again be a favorite to win the NBA Championship come playoff time.

2013 San Antonio Spurs Season Preview

The Spurs came oh-so-close to a 5th NBA Championship, but a Ray Allen fadeaway three-pointer gave the Heat new life and led to a Game 7 victory for Miami. The Spurs had 58 wins in the regular season, and are thinking about 60+ this season with the possibility of a full-on breakout year from Kawhi Leonard. The 6’7 small forward can be the fourth cog in the Duncan, Parker, Ginobili machine as they go for it all again in the 2013-14 Season.San Antonio will tip-off the season at the Staples Center against the Lakers on Nov. 1, before finishing a short West Coast trip in Portland and Denver. The first home game of the season will be Nov. 6 against the Phoenix Suns. Other key home games will be vs. Houston on Nov. 30, vs. Oklahoma City on Dec. 21, and vs. Miami on March 6 in an NBA Finals rematch.

2012 San Antonio Spurs Season Preview

The San Antonio Spurs are at the same time one of the most formidable teams in the NBA, and oldest. However, that doesn’t really matter when you’re dealing with one of the strongest cores in the NBA between future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan and superstars Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli. That is the group that, with hobbled knees, captured the best record in the Western Conference in 2010-11. However there’s a bit of a youth movement afoot in the land of the Alamo, as forwards Tiago Splitter and DeJuan Blair, and guard George Hill use those fill-in minutes to gain experience for when the time comes and it’s them starting in the Alamodome. While there’s no timetable set for that, it’s exciting to watch one of the most compelling mixes of fastbreak and half court offenses the NBA has to offer.

2011 San Antonio Spurs Season Preview

The San Antonio Spurs may be one of the oldest teams in the NBA, but they still have a solid core of talented players. Despite a mediocre season, the Spurs still managed to sneak into the playoffs in the competitive Western Conference, and while they may have been replaced by several upstart young teams as a perennial favorite, they can still make a run. San Antonio has been led by Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili for much of the last decade, and that is one again the case. The talented triumvirate can still have an impact if they manage to stay healthy, as Duncan averaged a double-double last year. One question mark may be Richard Jefferson, who is coming off a sub-par season with the Spurs. While his production is uncertain, if he can be the dangerous scoring threat he once was, the Spurs will be successful. While their foundation is firmly routed with experienced players, the Spurs also have a slue of up-and-comers ready to step up. Second-year man DeJuan Blair proved he could be a reliable scorer and defender, and George Hill established himself as a solid point guard.

2010 San Antonio Spurs Season Preview

The San Antonio Spurs are one of the top teams in the NBA heading into the 2009-2010. The Spurs have reloaded after their first round playoff exit by adding Richard Jefferson and DeJuan Blair. Jefferson will be join an already strong nucleus that includes Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. Those 4 talented players, along with a strong supporting cast, should take the Spurs deep into the playoffs. Whether San Antonio can reach the NBA Finals this year will likely depend a lot on keeping players healthy. If the Spurs stay healthy then fans in San Antonio could watch Head Coach Gregg Popovich and GM R.C. Buford put another NBA Championship banner up at the AT&T Center.
