The Toronto Raptors are one of the newest organizations in the NBA, joining the Association the same year current Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Garnett did—1995. In its first season, Toronto had little to be impressed with, finishing 21-61, which was well out of playoff contention. The bright spot for the franchise was rookie point guard Damon Stoudamire, who led the team in scoring (19.0) and assists (9.3) his first season. The Raptors would make the playoffs for the first time during the 1999-2000 season, when they were led by the dynamic familial duo of Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady. Though McGrady wouldn’t become the star he’s remembered to be until after he left Toronto, “Vinsanity” was at the top of his game while a member of the Raptors. Carter would lead Toronto to three straight playoff appearances in the mid-2000s, but was eventually traded to the New Jersey Nets when the Raptors decided to rebuild. Toronto’s only two other playoff appearances came thanks to the strong play of forward Chris Bosh. The fourth overall selection in a loaded 2003 draft class, Bosh’s Raptors won the franchise’s only Atlantic Division title in 2007. 2014 Raptors Season Preview
The Toronto Raptors were one of the biggest success stories of the 2013-14 NBA Season. After struggling early, the Raptors traded star Rudy Gay in a move that looked like the team was mailing in the season. But the trade ignited Toronto, creating new team leaders in DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry, who pushed the Raptors to the 3rd best record in the NBA’s Eastern Conference.
The Toronto Raptors enter their 2014-15 NBA schedule with much of that same team intact. The biggest addition to the Toronto Raptors’ roster will likely be rookie Bruno Caboclo. The forward will add depth to the Raptors front court, and along with other new comer Lou Williams, should make an immediate impact in Toronto. The Toronto Raptors will still have one of the best defenses in the Eastern Conference and should be major players to win the NBA Atlantic Division.

The Raptors and Nets have met over 65 times in their history during the regular season with each team winning about half of the meetings. The two teams have also met once in the playoffs during the first round of the 2007 Eastern Conference playoffs. With Toronto and Brooklyn both playing in the same conference, this rivalry will only continue to get better in the years to come.

As division foes, the Raptors and the Knicks have faced off over 75 total times throughout the years. This rivalry peaked in the early 2000s when the two teams met in the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. Toronto and New York split the two playoff meetings which has been par for the course in this match-up as both teams have almost won the same amount of games in the overall series.

Toronto Raptors Event Guide

Typically doors open 1 hour before game-time for the general public. On weeknights Gate 2 opens at 5:00 with the other gates opening 1 hour before the start of the game.
Where are good places to eat before a Raptors game?
Real Sports Bar is not far from AAC and is consistently voted one of the best sports bars in North America. We highly recommend getting to Real early as its reputation precedes it and often has long lines. If the lines are too long at Real, try Miller Tavern. It is only half a block from AAC and has some wonderful seafood options. If you are looking for an upscale dining experience try Harbour Sixty. Definitely on the high end of the price scale, but it makes for an unforgettable experience, and some of the best ribs you will find. There are a few great Italian places close to AAC, Rio Ranna’s Really Really Nice Restaurant, Pizzeria Liberetto, and Gusto 101 are all worth visiting. No Raptors eating guide would be complete without some traditional Canadian options. Try Joey Eaton Centre, 360 Restaurant, or Volo.
Where is the best place to park at The Air Canada Centre?
There are around 13,000 parking spaces accessible next to the Air Canada Centre and they run between $20 and $40. If you are looking to stay close to AAC, we recommend purchasing a parking pass with your ticket. There are a few city lots in the area, look for the green P parking signs. These lots are cheaper, usually between $12 and $16, but will be a farther walk. Union Rail Station is located next to AAC and is a great option for those looking to skip traffic and parking altogether.
Does my child need a ticket to go to a Raptors game?
Children 23 months or younger may enter The Air Canada Centre without a ticket and must sit in a parents lap for the duration of the game. Be prepared to show proof of your child’s age at the gate.
