The Washington Wizards franchise joined the NBA for the 1961-62 season as the Chicago Packers. After two seasons in Chicago, the franchise moved to Baltimore and became the Bullets. On the strength of superstar guard Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, the Bullets posted their first winning season in the 1968-69 season. Starting from that season, the Bullets—who moved to Washington in 1973—made the playoffs 12 straight seasons, including four trips to the NBA Finals. The third trip—in 1978—the Bullets upended the Seattle Supersonics to take home the franchise’s first championship, thanks to the play of Elvin Hayes, Bob Dandridge and Wes Unseld. Despite the playoff streak ending, the Bullets remained perennial competitors every year through the end of the 1980s. Since the ‘80s however, the franchise has struggled. The team made the playoffs just once in the 1990s, but had a run of success in the 2000s after becoming the Wizards. With Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison leading the way, Washington made the playoffs four consecutive seasons from 2004-05 to 2007-08. The Wizards have retired the numbers of four players in the franchise’s history. Score with TicketCity - the place to go for Washington Wizards basketball tickets.
2015 Wizards Season Preview
The expectations for the Washington Wizards were pretty subdued coming into last season. But the Wizards rallied and crushed every goal in front of them, winning 44 games, and defeating the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. No the Wizards didn’t win the NBA finals. But few had even picked them to make the playoffs.
The success of 2013 gave Washington Wizards fans the hope that maybe they were just a few steps away from being one of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference. Washington’s front office tried to take these steps in the offseason by putting Wizards uniforms on Paul Pierce, Kris Humphries, and Dejuan Blair. The Washington Wizards should remain one of the elite defensive teams in the Eastern Conference in 2014 and with John Wall conducting the offense, any team on the Wizards 2014-15 schedule should be nervous.

Wizards vs. Cavaliers
With a stretch of playoff matchups in three straight seasons, the intensity level is often at its highest when these two teams meet. In the last 7+ seasons, the two teams have played against each other more times than they have any other opponent which has led the games to be close and sometimes hostile. Trash talk has been a common occurrence in this matchup and this rivalry will only get better as both teams improve on the court.
Wizards vs. 76ers
These two teams have met over 300 times which includes multiple playoff series. With stakes often at its highest, the intensity level is hard to match when the teams play against each other. The highlight of this series came in 1978 when the teams met for the chance to advance to the NBA championship. The Wizards ended up winning that series 4-2.
Wizards in the NBA Finals, Eastern Conference Championships and NBA Playoffs
The Wizards have won over 3 Eastern Conference Championships to go along with an NBA Championship. The Wizards dominated the 1970s that led them to win over 5 division titles in that span. The Wizards will only add to that number in the upcoming seasons as they have started to build a young talented roster that can make an impact on the court.
Washington Wizards Event Guide
What time do gates open prior to tipoff for a Wizards game?
Gates open to the general public 1-hour before game time. We recommend getting to the Verizon Center when the gates open and using that hour to walk around the arena, buy some concessions, and enjoy the pre-game shoot-around.
Where are good places to eat before a Wizards game?
Washington D.C. is known for having some of the most diverse food selections anywhere in the world. We recommend trying something new before going to a Wizards game. For Asian food try Thai Chili, Kanlaya Thai Cuisine, or Oya. There are some wonderful Greek options near Verizon Center. Zaytinya, Komi, and Mourayo are all worth visiting. For more traditional American dining, try Clyde’s, District Chophouse & Brewery or The Capital Grille. Acadiana, The Passenger and Brasserie Beck are other great options.
Where are good places to park at Verizon Center?
There are quite a few good parking options in the few blocks around Verizon Center. Try looking to the west of the arena between G St. NW and F St. NW on 9th ST. NW. There are a couple garages to the south of E St. NW also. Parking usually runs between $10-$30 at most of these garages. Public transportation in Washington D.C. is great. The Metro lets off underneath Verizon Center and four other stations are within walking distance. Taking the Metro is the most convenient way to get to the game, and you will be surrounded with other Wizards fans instead of traffic.
Does my child need a ticket to go to a Wizards game?
Children 3 and older require a ticket to enter Verizon Center. Kids less than 3 years old can sit in their parents lap during the game. We recommend bringing proof of your child’s age and getting to the gates early to avoid any hassles when trying to enter the arena.

seats expesnsive for location I have sat in this area before. However the cost of the tickets was way out of line. I enjoyed watching Lebron, but for the price I would have expected to be closer to the floor. February 22, 2015
Good seats. Everything went smoothly. Would buy from again. February 11, 2015
Great Experience! The seats were great! I was able to check out the seats prior to buying on the map. I knew they were a good location but they were better than I hoped for and the fans around us were great as well! Great experience! February 10, 2015
