The Denver Broncos play in the West Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) of the National Football League (NFL). The franchise was founded in 1960 as part of the American Football League (AFL). As an AFL team, the Denver Broncos were abysmal, rarely having a winning season and nearly losing the franchise in 1965. After joining the NFL, the Denver Broncos would find their first success after signing John Elway at quarterback in 1983. Elway and running back Terrell Davis would eventually lead the team to two Super Bowl championships in 1997 and 1998. After Elway's retirement, the team has continued to have incredible success at running back and decent playoff success. The quarterback position has been more of a problem to fill. The Denver Broncos can't be counted out of any game, however, and their offense can put up points in a hurry.
