Houston Texans Season Preview History
2010 Houston Texans Football Preview:
The Houston Texans have yet to make the playoffs in their short history, but they have been inching closer over the past several years. Last season, the Texans barely missed out when they finished 9-7, and while a division crown may be hard to come by, a wild card berth is not out of the question.
Much of the Texans success has been centered around their passing game. Quarterback Matt Schaub was the league's leading passer in 2009, throwing for a robust 4,770 yards and 29 touchdowns. It certainly helps to have Andre Johnson to throw to, who is arguably the best receiver in the league. Although they have a potent passing attack, Houston will need to improve its running game - which ranked 30th in the league. Steve Slaton has shown flashes of greatness but has been unreliable.
On defense, the Texans have made great improvements over the past few years. Former number-one pick defensive end Mario Williams has shown why the Texans took him first in the draft, and had nine sacks last season. Linebacker Brian Cushing had a break out season last year, recording a team-leading 134 tackles and adding four interceptions. However, Cushing is suspended for the first four games of 2010.
2009 Houston Texans Football Preview:
Houston Texans Head Coach Gary Kubiak has a lot of young talent that should make his 2009 team one to watch. On the defensive side the Texans are led by former top pick Mario Williams and stud linebacker DeMeco Ryans. On offense Houston wide receiver Andre Johnson is starting to be recognized as one of top players in the NFL. Quarterback Matt Schaub has Johnson and running back Steve Slaton who is entering his sophomore year in the league. Much of the Texans success in 2009 will depend on how the trio of Schaub, Slaton and Johnson play. If they live up to expectations, the Texans could be making noise in the AFC this season.
2008 Houston Texans Football Preview:
The Houston Texans are still looking for their first winning season and their first playoff appearance, but things are by no means boring in Houston this coming season. With vast improvements made each season, and some tough close losses in 2007, the Texans could be poised to make a big impact this year.
The seventh season for the Houston Texans proves to be the most promising one yet, as the team has improved significantly in its fledgling seasons. Last year, the team recorded an 8-8 record, the first ever non-losing season for the Houston. Owner Bob McNair is playing his cards right, and making significant steps to bolster the otherwise young team. A prime investment by McNair was Reliant Stadium, which has sold out every seat for Texans home games since its inception in 2002.
On offense, you can look for Andre Johnson to make his comeback with plenty of eye-grabbing catches and rapport with fellow receivers. The defense is also looking much better every season, and playmakers like linebacker DeMeco Ryans and lineman Mario Williams are going to be a threat for anyone trying to run the ball. Houston could improve its defensive backfield, however, to put more pressure on the pass. Overall, this is going to be one of the best seasons for the Texans, provided that they can stand up to the big boys of the AFC South: Indiana, Jacksonville, and Tennessee. This could be the year that the Houston Texans make their playoff push, so grab some tickets to a game at Reliant Stadium!
