2011 JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS PREVIEW:
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a team on the cusp of breaking out of their recent doldrums. They have improved every year since bottoming out at 5-11 in 2008, but time may be running out on head coach Jack del Rio if he doesn't turn things around in 2011. If the team’s offensive stars can stay healthy, there's no reason why the Jaguars can't compete for an AFC South title.
Quarterback David Garrard has been an enigma over the last several years. At times he shows flashes of greatness, while other times he is woefully inconsistent. He will be aided a great deal this season if star running back Maurice Jones-Drew can recover from off-season knee surgery. Jones-Drew will have to carry a lot of the load, as the Jaguars lost star receiver Mike Sims-Walker to free agency, and look to form a wide receiving corps led by Mike Thomas and Tight End Marcedes Lewis.
The Jaguars defense turned in some solid performances in 2010, and while they were not among the elite squads in the league, they certainly did not lose Jacksonville any games. The defensive line will be led by Terrance Knighton, who has showed great promise in his short time in Jacksonville. As for the secondary, Derek Cox leads a young squad that has proven it can make plays.
