2010 Jacksonville Jaguars Football Preview:
The Jacksonville Jaguars entered 2009 with high hopes, but Jack del Rio's team finished a disappointing 7-9 and missed the playoffs. The AFC South may prove to be one of the most difficult divisions in the league with an upstart Houston Texans team now in contention, so it may be difficult for the Jaguars to make the postseason with such a tough schedule.
Quarterback David Garrard had a break out season in 2007, but since then has been much less productive - throwing 10 interceptions last year to only 15 touchdowns. However, Garrard can make plays with his feet, as he was the Jaguars second leading rusher a year ago. Garrard is not the centerpiece of the offense, as Maurice Jones-Drew is one of the best running backs in the league. Last season, Jones-Drew rushed for 1,391 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The Jacksonville defense struggled last year, especially against the pass, and was embarrassed in a 41-0 drudging at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks. The defensive line will be key, especially Terrance Knighton, who will need to improve on last year's production and apply more pressure on the quarterback. Veteran cornerback Rashean Mathis anchors the secondary and will provide some much needed leadership on a young squad.
2009 Jacksonville Jaguars Football Preview:
The Jacksonville Jaguars will be one of the teams to watch in the AFC in 2009. Coach Jack Del Rio's team took a step back in 2008 finishing with a 5-11 record, after making the playoffs in 2007 with an 11-5 record. This year will be a key year for Jags quarterback David Gerrard as he tries to stay healthy and get back on-track with his game. The formula for Jacksonville this year should be a steady diet of running back Maurice Jones-Drew on offense and a stingy defense. If Del Rio can get his QB playing well, his running game rolling and his defense stopping people then Jacksonville could be a contender to make the Super Bowl in Miami.
2008 Jacksonville Jaguars Football Preview:
The Jacksonville Jaguars have proven themselves to be a tough team and one that no one should count out come playoff time. The team has established itself as a defensive power under head coach and former Pro-Bowl linebacker Jack Del Rio. Hampered by injuries last season, the Jacksonville Jaguars still managed to put together a very respectable record, and vied for a playoff berth. A game at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium is always a wild and raucous affair as the Jacksonville Jaguars provide their fans with hard-nosed, defensive minded football.
