The Miami Dolphins play football in the East Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) of the National Football League (NFL). The Dolphins franchise was founded in 1966 as an expansion team. Much of Miami's history saw coach Don Shula at the helm, leading the team to 26 winning seasons out of 28 and coaching the Dolphins to their famous perfect season in 1972 and winning back-to-back Super Bowls. Dan Marino led the Dolphins to playoff success in the '80s and '90s, managing to break various NFL passing records along the way. Since 2000, the team has been in rebuilding mode and had some disappointments in including the drug suspensions and temporary retirement of star running back Ricky Williams.

The Miami Dolphins play their home games at Sun Life Stadium (formerly known as Dolphins Stadium, Pro Player Stadium, and Joe Robbie Stadium) in Miami Gardens, Florida. Opened in 1987 and holding a capacity crowd of 76,500, Dolphin Stadium was the first pro sports stadium to be built solely from private funding. It was also one of the first stadiums to incorporate luxury and club level seating to help pay for its construction.
