2011 PITTSBURGH STEELERS PREVIEW:
The Pittsburgh Steelers are fresh off their second AFC Championship in three years, and although they fell in the Super Bowl, the Steelers look poised to put on a repeat performance in 2011. With a healthy Ben Roethlisberger and a stout defense, there's no reason why the black and gold won't once again be a favorite to win it all.

One thing the Steelers do not have to worry about the production out of Roethlisberger. He is consistently among the best in the league, and likely will be again this year. He will be flanked by running back Rashard Mendenhall, who emerged last year as one of the best young backs in the NFL. As for receivers, Hines Ward and Mike Wallace provide solid targets for Roethlisberger.

As has been the case for the Steelers in their long history, the defense will likely lead the way this year. Linebacker James Harrison is considered to be one of the hardest hitters in the league, and he will certainly continue that reputation in 2011. He's definitely not alone, however, and is joined by the likes LaMarr Woodley and safety Troy Polamalu in forming one of the best defenses in the league.

Pittsburgh Steelers plays in the North Division of the American Football Conference of the National Football league (NFL). The Pittsburgh Steelers, originally named the Pirates, joined the NFL in 1933. The team would rename itself the Steelers in 1940 after the prominent steel industry in western Pennsylvania. The Steelers of the 1930’s had little success, and the coming of World War II made players so scarce that the team would merge briefly with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Cardinals. Pittsburgh’s fortunes really turned when Chuck Noll was hired as head coach in 1969. With the drafting of Terry Bradshaw, Joe Greene, Franco Harris, and Lynn Swann, the team had some of the brightest talent ever assembled, and would win 4 Super Bowls in 6 years. The retirement of these players led to the downfall of Pittsburgh Steelers’s success. Bill Cowher would replace Noll and eventually lead the team to two Super Bowls, winning one of them in 2005. The current team is Cowher’s legacy and looks to continue his success.

The Pittsburgh Steelers play at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Known by fans as the Mustard Palace or the Big Ketchup Bottle, the field was opened in 2001 and sits at the confluence of Pittsburgh’s three rivers. At a game in Pittsburgh you experience smash mouth football in front of a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers crowd at a modern stadium with all the amenities an audience could want.
