The Arizona Cardinals, one of the oldest franchises in the National Football League, have created a reputation as a winning organization since debuting in 1920. Although Arizona has yet to win a Super Bowl, the Cardinals have made numerous appearances in the postseason. See also:
The first time the Cardinals made it into the playoffs was in 1974. Arizona went head-to-head against Minnesota in the divisional playoff game, only to lose 30-14. However, the team has come a long way since their original appearance in the postseason.
The Cardinals have six divisional championships under their belt. In 2008, Arizona won the National Football Conference championship game, leading up to their appearance in Super Bowl XLIII. Ultimately, the Cardinals were defeated by the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-23. However, the team has a bright future as it continues to build a foundation made up of talented young stars.
Throughout its history, the Cardinals have seen a number of former players make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, including Ollie Matson, Dick Lane and Guy Chamberlin. Arizona has also retired five numbers, most notably number 8, which belonged to fallen soldier Pat Tillman.
