Since debuting as a franchise in 1953, the Indianapolis Colts have arguably become one of the most dominant teams of the late 20th century. The Colts have made 14 playoff appearances since entering the National Football League.
Indianapolis has a long history of success in the postseason. The Colts have made it to the Super Bowl twice, winning Super Bowl XLI in 2006. Quarterback Peyton Manning has also won the NFL Most Valuable Player award four times: 2003, 2004 2008 and 2009. In 2004, Manning was also named the Offensive Player of the Year.
Many would say that it's the talent that's come through Indianapolis that has made it a contender in the NFL. Three players who participated with the Colts made it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame following their careers, including Eric Dickerson, who was arguably one of the best half backs of his day.
Seven numbers have been retired within the organization. Most notably, number 19 has been hung up, which belonged to legendary quarterback, Johnny Unitas.
The Colts' most recent playoff appearance came in 2010. The team made it to the AFC wild card game, but ended up losing to the New York Jets, 17-16.
