Minnesota Vikings Ticket Information

The Minnesota Vikings were granted an expansion franchise in 1961, and after a few seasons near the bottom of the league, the Vikings became a powerhouse in the league. Minnesota won the franchise’s first of many division in 1968. The following season, the Vikings finished 12-2, romping through the NFL and knocking off the Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl IV. Though that would be the team’s only Super Bowl victory, the Vikings would continue to be one of the most feared team in the NFL. Minnesota won the division 11 times in 13 seasons from 1968 through 1980, reaching the Super Bowl four times including the Super Bowl IV victory. After a few up and down seasons through the 1980s, the Vikings reached the playoffs seven times in the 1990s and again in 2000. Having made the playoffs three times in the last five years, Minnesota could be embarking on another long run of success. The Vikings have honored 20 former players and staffers in their Ring of Honor. For more information on the Vikings check out our Minnesota Vikings History page. 2014 Vikings Season Preview

In an ongoing trend this year in the NFL, the Vikings too fired head coach Leslie Frazier after a disappointing follow up to their 2012 playoff stint. With candidates that include Mike Zimmer and Jay Gruden it's safe to say Minnesota will be making some changes for the better to get back into the playoffs. Check back in the fall for a 2014-15 season preview of the Minnesota Vikings.

Minnesota Vikings Rivals

This rivalry continues to be close and after 100+ meetings that dates back to 1961, these two teams have transformed this rivalry to one of the best in the NFL. With both teams playing two times a year and often fighting for a division, the intensity of this rivalry only continues to get better. This rivalry went to a new level when Packers’ great quarterback Brett Favre came out of retirement to play for the hated Vikings.

This rivalry has been played over 100 times and has had its share of crazy moments. A last second field goal in 2007 that catapulted the Vikings to a victory happened after they blew a 14-point lead during the game. The Vikings tied the Bears in 2009 with less than 20 seconds left after rallying from an early deficit of 17 only to see them lose the game in overtime. This has been the norm in this rivalry that started in 1961 and only continues to grow with each close matchup.

Vikings in the Super Bowl, NFC Championship and NFL Playoffs

The Vikings have 3+ NFC Championships and over 15 division titles in their 50+ years of existence. With more than 10 Hall of Famers, the Vikings have established themselves as one of the more historical franchises. With 25+ playoff appearances and one of the few teams to have won 15+ games in the regular season, the Vikings will only continue to build off their impressive history.

Minnesota Vikings Event Guide

What time do gates open prior to kick off for a Minnesota Vikings game?

The gates open two hours prior to the start of the game.

What are some good places to eat before a Vikings game?

Grumpy’s Bar & Grill serves up great bar food (burgers, sandwiches, fries, tots) has a great beer selection and is just a short walk from the stadium. It’s a casual place to grab a beer and burger before the game. The Loop Bar & Restaurant is a short cab ride from the stadium but offers a cool atmosphere with the largest 360-degree bar in the Minneapolis. They have flat screens mounted everywhere so you won’t miss a moment of pregame. The Fulton beer battered chicken fingers and pull port quesadillas are awesome.

Where is the best to park for a Vikings game?

If you are not a season parking pass holder there are multiple single game parking options west of the stadium. They are all first come, first serve so plan on arriving as early as possible. The closest locations are along Chicago Ave. at the cross streets of South 3rd and Washington Ave South.

What is a unique experience at a Minnesota Vikings game?

Normally only available on a full season basis but finding tickets is not out of the question, the Vikings Lounge opens 2 hours prior to kickoff and offers an all you can eat buffet and open bar, Viking playbook and game day magazine. There are flat screen TV’s all around and has a great view of the stadium. The lounge is limited to 150 members so it’s a hard ticket to find but an unforgettable experience.

Quest for 31 Continues in 2010! Going to the HHH Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN for a Minnesota Vikings game is an experience indeed. Viking fans have embraced the culture of the Norseman on their helmet and show up in droves, some in costume, to support their purple and gold warriors. These days with Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson in town, they’re beginning to look like a playoff contender again, especially after the Vikings-Lions game I was in town to watch, this past weekend as part of my continuing Quest for 31. My Minnesota Vikings ultimate fan experience actually began in a Viking-themed bed and breakfast located just north of the twin cities. After spending an evening immersed in Viking lore, I arose on Sunday morning ready to join the masses inside the Metrodome and rally the team to victory. Tailgating outside the Metrodome is a must. Just take a walk along the Purple Lots and you’re sure to find all types of fans dressed in actual Viking gear wielding swords, horned helmets and traditional Viking drinking horns. The other thing that's most impressive is the number of customized tailgate cruisers that you’ll find around the dome. Converted RV’s, Panel vans and delivery trucks sporting custom paint jobs and tailgating accessories are all over. If you’re coming to a game be sure to arrive early so you can take part in the festivities. The Metrodome is an aging facility, but it still has its charm. The fans are incredibly loud and very adept at using the dome construction to wreak havoc on the offenses of opposing teams. When the Vikings defense takes the field, fans respond with a wall of sound to deaden the snap counts of their opponents. My favorite part of the Viking fan experience is the fight song. Minnesota Viking fans belt out their fight song, “Skol Vikings” after every score. For their matchup against the Detroit Lions, it was showcased several times. If you’re interested in more information on what it’s like to be a fan of the Minnesota Vikings, check out my review on the Metrodome experience - http://www.questfor31.com/HHH-Metrodome.htm October 6, 2010
