The New England Patriots have become one of the most dominant franchises in the 21st century, winning three Super Bowls in 2001, 2003 and 2004. Although the team hasn't won a Vince Lombardi trophy since Super Bowl XXXIX, the Patriots finished on top of the AFC East in both 2009 and 2010. See also:
New England has made 17 appearances in the postseason since its inception in 1959. The Patriots have won their division 13 times throughout their history and continue to be a dominant force in the AFC East. New England plays in the division alongside the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.
A number of players have made it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame since participating with the organization, including John Hannah and Mike Haynes. Several players have had their numbers retired with the Patriots as well, such as Bruce Armstrong, Steve Nelson and Jim Lee Hunt.
The Patriots made their last appearance in the postseason in 2010. The team advanced to the AFC divisional championship game, only to lose to their division rivals, the New York Jets, 28-21.
