2011 ATLANTA FALCONS PREVIEW:
Despite an early exit in the playoffs last season, the Atlanta Falcons were one of the most exciting teams to watch. Led by one of the best young quarterbacks in the league, Matt Ryan, and with a powerful running game that can compete with any team in the league, it would not be surprising to see the Falcons back in the chase to win the NFC in 2011.

Last season Ryan had one of the best seasons in the league. He was helped a lot by the prolific production of receiver Roddy White, who provided him with an especially reliable target. Tight end Tony Gonzalez is also a significant weapon, and is among the best tight ends ever to play the game. The Falcons will also have a solid running game in 2011 thanks in large part to the production of running back Michael Turner.

The defense let the Falcons down at times last season, including an embarrassing 48-21 loss to eventual Super Bowl champion Packers. Despite their faults, the defense does feature a long list of talented players including defensive end John Abraham and cornerback Dunta Robinson.

The Atlanta Falcons play football in the South Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Falcons franchise first fielded a team in 1966 as part of that year's NFL expansion. The team has seen some playoff success in the late 1970's/early '80s, and again in the 1990's, with their best success coming in 1998 when they made it to Super Bowl XXVIII as the "Dirty Birds" and lost to John Elway and the Denver Broncos in his last season. 2001 marked the arrival of Michael Vick, upon whom the future of the franchise seemed to hang. His suspension came as a great blow to the team's future, but the NFL is in many ways designed for teams to correct such a problem through trades and the draft. Look for the Falcons to come out on top in the coming seasons.

The Atlanta Falcons play their home games at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. The stadium has a capacity of more than 71,000 and is sill the largest indoor sports facility in the United States. Fans attending a Falcons game at the dome this coming season will wait with bated breath to see what team emerges - a Falcons squad still reeling from the loss of Vick or a team ready to put its past behind it and look to the future.
