2011 NEW ORLEANS PREVIEW:
One year after their Super Bowl victory, the New Orleans Saints made it back to the playoffs, but suffered an embarrassing loss to the 7-9 Seattle Seahawks in the first round. The Saints are back with much the same team and are looking to get back to the postseason for the third straight year.
The heart of the Saints is undoubtedly in quarterback Drew Brees. He has been one of the most elite quarterbacks in the NFL ever since entering the league, and will certainly be that way once again in 2011. Although the Saints lost Reggie Bush to the Miami Dolphins, they acquired Darren Sproles, who will complement a passing attack led by Marques Colston and Robert Meacham very nicely.
The Saints defense was soft at time last season, and will need to shore up considerably if they would like to make another Super Bowl run. Up front, they are led by defensive end Will Smith and veteran lineback Johnathan Vilma. The secondary has a pair of standout playmakers in Roman Harper and Fabian Washington who will be playing alongside Super Bowl hero Tracy Porter.

The New Orleans Saints play in the South Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) of the national Football League (NFL). In spite of the great play of legendary quarterback Archie Manning from 1971 to 1982, the Saints wouldn't make the playoffs for their first 20 seasons. This poor performance led the team to be nicknamed the "Aints" by local fans who wore bags over their heads to home games, a tradition that has spread to other teams over the years. After Mike Ditka's disastrous coaching stint in New Orleans, the New Orleans Saints began to improve in 2000 with Jim Haslett as coach, reaching the second round of the playoffs in his first season. Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005 and forced the team play its home games in Baton Rouge and San Antonio, Texas. The Saints homecoming season of 2006 was an emotional one, and the team played like champions making it all the way to the NFC Championship.
The New Orleans Saints play their home games at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The city finally appears to be getting back on its feet and the Superdome has become a memorial to the rebuilding effort and the hardships suffered by city residents. A game at the nearly 70,000-seat arena is an emotional experience for any football fan, city resident, or New Orleans visitor.
