Throughout the history of the Seattle Seahawks, a number of notable players have made great strides on the gridiron. Individuals such as Matt Hasselbeck, Shaun Alexander and Steve Largent have all played a role in making the franchise as successful as it is today. Seattle has also made 11 appearances in the postseason since debuting in 1976.
Although the Seahawks have yet to win a Super Bowl, they climbed to the top of their division seven times upon entering the National Football League. Seattle made one Super Bowl appearance in 2006, but ended up losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A number of players have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame after spending some time with the organization, including Jerry Rice, Warren Moon and Franco Harris. The team has also retired three numbers, one of which is 12. This number is dedicated to the "Twelfth man" on the field, which Seattle considers to be their fans.
The Seahawks play in the NFC West division, along with the Arizona Cardinals, St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers. Their most recent appearance in the playoffs took place in 2010 after winning the division.
