The Boston Bruins are the oldest American hockey team after being established in 1924 and have won the fifth most Stanley Cup titles with six. Boston has also won 24 division titles over the years led by star players Ray Bourque and Bobby Orr. Bourque became the face of the Bruins for over two decades while becoming one of the greatest defensemen in the history of the NHL. Orr has been widely recognized as one of the best players in league history and spent 10 of his years playing in the city of Boston. The Bruins dominated the 1970s, winning 7 division titles to go along with one of their championships. Boston continued their division supremacy through the 1980s and early 1990s before an 8-year drought that ended in the 2001-2002 season. 2015 Bruins Season Preview
The Boston Bruins had a bittersweet season in 2013. The Bruins followed up their 2013 Eastern Conference Championship with 54 wins, the Atlantic Division championship and the President’s Trophy. But the Bruins campaign to return to the Stanley Cup finals was thwarted in the Eastern Conference Semifinals where Boston lost a 3-2 series lead to the Montreal Canadiens and gave up the series in 7 games.
Going into the 2014-2015 season, the Boston Bruins look to be as dangerous as ever. They were the consensus Eastern Conference favorites a year ago and return as one of the top contenders again this season. Vezina Trophy winning goalie Tuukka Rask returns and should remain among the elite goaltenders in the NHL. He will have plenty of help from Patrice Bergeron, Milan Lucic, and Carl Soderberg. Gone from last year’s Boston Bruins team is veteran Jarome Iginla, but look for first round draft pick David Pastrnak to be a speedy asset to the veteran Bruins. With the talent and recent success that the Boston Bruins have had, anything short of a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals will seem like a disappointment to Bruins fans. Look for Boston to be in the thick of the race at the end of the season.

Bruins vs. Canadiens
Known as one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports, the Bruins and Canadiens are two of the truly great franchises in hockey history. They’ve played each other over 850 times since their first match up in 1924, and while the Canadiens have the edge, it’s always a hard-fought battle no matter whether they’re at the TD Garden or the Bell Centre.
Bruins vs. Flyers
If you’ve been watching recently, this rivalry needs no explanation – these teams just flat out don’t like each other. There have been punches thrown and blood spilled as recently as 2013, and the fans disdain for each other is clear as well. The rivalry that started in the 70s is just as fierce today between Boston and Philadelphia.
Bruins vs. Maple Leafs
It’s an “original six rivalry,” meaning these are two of the six teams that began the NHL way back in the 1920s. The Bruins lead the all-time series by a slight margin but the Maple Leafs are always looking for wins against the Boston club. The Phil Kessel trade between the two teams in 2009 was a shock and the all-star has scored multiple times against his old Boston team in the games they’ve played since.
Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup, Eastern Conference Championship, and NHL Playoffs
As members of the original six the Boston Bruins have collected 6 Stanley Cups championships, coming in at 4th most in NHL history while appearing in 15 Eastern Conference Championships. The “boys of Bean” town are no strangers to the NHL Playoffs, having reached postseason play an astonishing 68 times. No team is more decorated than the Boston Bruins.
