Chicago Blackhawks Ticket Information

One of the original six NHL teams, the Chicago Blackhawks have become one of the most successful franchises in the league. The Blackhawks have made the Stanley Cup Finals 12 times since they began playing in 1926; victorious in five of those appearances. Chicago went nearly 50 years between their third championship and their fourth. After winning in the 1960-1961 season, Chicago did not win again until 2009-2010. Although Chicago went so long without winning a championship, they were still highly successful over the years. The organization went through a stretch of not missing the playoffs for 28 straight seasons. The Blackhawks have won a division title in every decade since their first one in the 1969-1970 season for a total 15. One of the best players in league history Bobby Hull, top center Stan Mikita, and hall of famer Denis Savard have all had their numbers retired by the Blackhawks after finishing their great careers in the NHL. 2014 Blackhawks Season Preview

The Chicago Blackhawks proved to the best team in the NHL, winning the Stanley Cup in 2013 after being the best team in the Western Conference all season long. It was an epic Game 6 comeback over the Bruins that sealed the championship, and we’ll now see if the Blackhawks can repeat as title holders in the 2013-14 Season. Nikolai Khabibulin was brought in to replace Ray Emery after the keeper bolted to play in Philadelphia, but other than that Chicago didn’t make a lot of offseason moves. Why mess with success?

The Blackhawks have a lot to do before the big break in the middle of the season for the Winter Olympics, including a four game homestand at the United Center in January that includes the Avalanche, who are off to a hot start. They’ll welcome in the Ducks a few days later, then a rematch against the Boston Bruins on January 19th.

Chicago Blackhawks Rivals

Blackhawks vs. Red Wings

Playing each other since both clubs had their inaugural seasons in 1926, the Blackhawks and Redwings have faced off in the regular season more times than any two teams in NHL history. Detroit holds the all-time advantage, but the Blackhawks have become the team to beat in recent years – culminating in two Stanley Cup victories in 2010 and 2013. As part of the original six, the rivalry will only continue to grow as these two great hockey cities battle over the years to come.

Blackhawks vs. Canucks

These two hockey titans met each other three times in a row recently in the playoffs, helping spark a rivalry that spills into the stands just as much is it hangs over every player’s head on the ice. The Blackhawks rebuilt the club with young players in the 2000s, culminating in a berth in the second round of the 2009 playoffs where they came back from a 1-2 deficit to beat the Canucks and secure a berth in the West Conference finals. The rivalry will only heat up as both clubs continue to dominate in the conference.

Frozen Pond Pilgrimage - United Center The Frozen Pond Pilgrimage encompasses my desire to experience the National Hockey League as a fan of every franchise. To that end, I found myself in Chicago, Illinois in late January to watch the hometown Chicago Blackhawks take on the Philadelphia Flyers at the United Center. Hot off their Stanley Cup win, the Chicago Blackhawks looked to build on last year’s success with a strong showing in the regular season and the United Center is setup to help them make it happen. The United Center has really got some great fan amenities to keep fans returning to support their home town Hawks. With wide concourses, ample restroom facilities, and some excellent common bar areas, there’s plenty of space for fans to gather outside the game and the steep side bowl construction allows for some great sight lines to the action down on the ice. The concessions at the United Center are fairly impressive as well. BBQ pulled pork sandwiches and Chicago-Style deep dish pizza along with Tucan grilled chicken and beef brisket sandwiches can be found on United Center concession menus. Fans arriving early are also permitted to watch the warmup skate down in the lower bowl prior to gametime. The area around the United Center, especially east of the arena has some great bars and taverns to check out for pre or post game libations. The Billy Goat Tavern is a must see as the original owner William “Billy Goat” Sianis is widely regarded as responsible for the demise of the Chicago Cubs after WWII. Sianis who was denied entry into Wrigley Field with his goat, placed a curse on the Cubs. The Curse of the Billy Goat is a local legend that most Chicago residents are very familiar with. Along Madison Street I’d also check out The Westend, Bar Bistro and The Crossroads Bar & Grill. All are within walking distance and offer some great microbrews on tap. For more information on what there is to do in the city of Chicago and on "The Curse of the Billy Goat", be sure to check out my Chicago Blackhawks review at http://www.nhlhockeyarenas.com/Chicago-Blackhawks-United-Center-Review-JAN2011.html.
