EDMONTON OILERS POSTSEASON
The Edmonton Oilers got their start in the now-defunct World Hockey Association in 1972, but it wasn't until the squad's move to the NHL in 1979 that the team really started to come together. The Oilers have made the playoffs 20 times, captured six division titles and won five Stanley Cup titles.
The Oilers were the terror of the NHL during the 1980s, and many consider their dynasty to be one of the best teams to ever take the ice. With Hall of Famers like "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Glenn Anderson, Paul Coffey and Grant Fuhr on the same team, it's no wonder that the Oilers had such an unprecedented run.
As Gretzky captured scoring titles and Hart Trophies in the early 1980s, the team steadily began to build a core of talent around their young star. The Oilers beat the New York Islanders in the 1984 Stanley Cup finals which led to years of domination that would result in championships in 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990.
In recent years, the Oilers have been actively rebuilding their roster with young talent to become a factor in the NHL playoffs. With a ravenous fan base and a history of excellence, it's only a matter of time before the Oilers are back in the big dance.
