The Devils have played in New Jersey since the 1982 season after formerly being the Kansas City Scouts and Colorado Rockies. The Devils struggled in their first few seasons after the move, but they finally reached the playoffs during the 1987-1988 season. Since their first playoff appearance, the Devils have only missed the postseason four times. The stretch of playoff appearances are highlighted by five conference championships and three Stanley Cup titles. The first Stanley Cup championship occurred during the 1994-1995 season. Over the years, New Jersey has also won nine division titles, with a stretch of five titles in a seven year span. The Devils have had great players like center Patrik Elias, right wing John MacLean, and left wing Kirk Muller skate for the organization over the years. 2014 Devils Season Preview
Head coach Pete DeBoer will have some big decisions to make this season, including which goalkeeper to start between Cory Schneider and Martin Brodeur. The right choice could be instrumental in how the Devils do this season, and they’ll need every opportunity to do well in other facets of the game after Ilya Kovalchuk surprisingly retired from the NFL. They’ve signed Ryane Clowe, Jaromir Jagr and Michael Ryder to help out offensively and they try to get through 22 back-to-back game sets – the most in the NHL this season.
The Devils will host the Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings in consecutive games in early December before hitting the road for match ups in New York, Columbus and Pittsburgh. The Blues will play in New Jersey on Jan 21., with the Capitals and Rangers shortly thereafter.

Devils vs. Rangers
The Hudson River Rivalry was formed mostly through the famous 1994 and 1995 seasons, where the Rangers and Devils won consecutive Stanley Cups. The two teams met in the 1997 playoffs as well, where the Devils fell to a Rangers team that couldn’t be stopped and was chalk full of hall of famers. Hockey goes well when both teams are good, and that usually the case in this rivalry.
Devils vs. Flyers
Sometimes referred to as the “Battle of the Jersey Turnpike”, the close proximity has turned it into quite a rivalry since the Devils and Flyers first met in 1982. The Devils have won three of the five playoff series’ between the two, and since the conferences were realigned in 1993 the two account for almost all of the Atlantic Division titles.
New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup, Eastern Conference Championship, and NHL Playoffs
Not only have the New Jersey Devils appeared in 5 Stanley Cups since 1995, they went on to win an unbelievable 3 of them. Their short history, dating back to 1982, includes 21 playoff appearances as well as an astonishing 9 division championships.
New Jersey Devils Event Guide
What time do gates open prior to a Devils game?
Gates open between 60-90 and minutes before the puck drops at Prudential Center.
Where are good places to eat before a Devils game?
If you are looking to spend pre-game with plenty of other Devils fans you should visit Brick City Bar And Grill. Brick City serves some great pub food and is a great place to meet other Devils fanatics. Only a short walk from Prudential Center is Dinousour Bar-B-Que and Ferry St. Barbeque. Easily two of the best barbeque places in the area, both are worth checking out. For Spanish food lovers try Don Pepe, Spanish Tavern, or Mompou Tapas Wine Bar and Lounge. Other great places in the area are Hell’s Kitchen Lounge, Rio Rodizio, and McGovern’s Tavern.
Where is the best place to park at Prudential Center?
There are a few parking options near Prudential Center. There are parking garages on the north, west, and south sides of the arena. We recommend trying the garage on the south side as it is the largest and offers the best chance of finding a space. A few blocks south of the arena are three more parking garages just north of Chestnut Street. The Prudential Station is right across the street from the Prudential Center and the Subway is probably the most convenient way to get to and from a Devils game.
Does my child need a ticket to go to a Devils game?
Children under the age of 2 years old will be allowed to enter Prudential Center free of charge and must sit on a guardians lap for the duration of the game. It is recommended that you bring proof of your child’s age to the gate with you to ensure your child is admitted into the arena.
