2015 New York Islanders Season Preview

The New York Islanders had a fantastic season a year ago, falling one game short of advancing to the 2nd round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Islanders come into 2015 with much of the same team. Captain John Tavares returns to lead what is a talented and young group of Islanders that will be out to prove that they belong among the list of perennial contenders in the Eastern Conference. But the biggest buzz around the 2015 New York Islanders, will be their move to the Barclays Center. After playing multiple games in Brooklyn over the last few years, the Islanders are moving off Long Island permanently. The Barclays Center is one of the premier venues in the world and will feature a talented and driven 2015 New York Islanders team as they try and reach back to back playoffs for the first time since 2004.

2014 New York Islanders Season Preview

The New York Islanders playoff berth in 2012-13 was a breath of life back into the team. The anticipation coming into the 2013 season was incredibly high, but sadly those hopes were dashed with a midseason injury to Captain John Tavares. New York ended up finishing near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, closing out the year with a 34-37 record and 14 points outside the East’s final playoff spot. With Tavares back and healthy, the Islanders are once again hopeful for another trip the NHL playoffs. Added in the offseason was goaltender Jaroslav Halak, who looks to sure up what was a shaky position for the team last season. Tavares will team up with Kyle Okposo who is coming off one of the best years of his career where he scored 69 points, which was tops for the Islanders for last season. Look for the New York Islanders to be very competitive in the Metropolitan Division, and for them to be in the thick of the NHL playoff race late in the season.

2013 New York Islanders Season Preview

The Islanders squeaked into the playoffs after a strong second half of the season in 2013, but they’ll need to improve yet again if they want to get past the first round. Ryan Strome and Brock Nelson could be big contributors in the 2013-14 season, but Pierre-Marc Bouchard is a big difference maker that the Islanders sorely needed. Mark Streit has departed, so they’ll need the defensemen left on the squad to pick up the slack. The Islanders will be one of the more interesting teams to follow for all hockey fans, and will be a delight for those Islander faithful. The New York Islanders will be on the road much of November, but do get home games against the Kings and Red Wings on Nov. 14 and Nov. 16, respectively. They’ll host the Canadiens on Dec. 14 as well as the rival New Jersey Devils on Dec. 28. Their New Year’s Eve game will be played at TD Garden against the Bruins.

2012 New York Islanders Season Preview

Although the New York Islanders finished in second to last place in the Eastern Conference of the NHL in the 2010-11 season, the franchise is on the cusp of something greater. This team, which has been a dominant force in the Atlantic Division in past years, continues to grow as it brings new talent onto the ice. This year, the Islanders will kick off the regular season vs. the Florida Panthers on October 8. Although they finished with a losing 30-39 record last year, head coach Jack Capuano expects to turn things around, thanks to a number of veterans who will be returning to the ice this season for the Islanders, including Brian Rolston and Andrew MacDonald. Most notably, goaltender Rick DiPietro will be in net again for New York. Throughout his career, DiPietro has been a dominant force for the Islanders and is one of the best American goalies in the NHL. Three players that are newer to the lineup will be making their presence felt in 2011—Nino Niederreiter, Josh Bailey and Blake Comeau. These three forwards are key to the Isles’ resurgence and the core of their drafting over the past half-decade. If they begin to show their promise in 2011, then the New York Islanders are a team that can surprise the Eastern Conference.

2011 New York Islanders Season Preview

It's been four years since the New York Islanders last found themselves in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Last season they struggled to a last place finish in the Atlantic Division, and the young team may find it difficult to climb back to the post season this year. The offense was a bright spot of the Islanders last season, and they return much of their front line in 2010. Matt Moulson led the team with 30 goals last year, and he is back along with assists-leader Mark Streit. Moulson will be joined by center John Tavares, who will be a dynamic leader on New York's first line. Along with Tavares and Moulson, Kyle Okposo is expected to be solid. While the offense was serviceable last season, the defense certainly was not. There was instability at goaltender, and that will be the case this year as well. Rick DiPietro is back from injury, but how effective he will be remains to be seen. DiPietro will be helped by some new acquisitions including former Anaheim Duck James Wisniewski, who fans will be hoping gives the defense a much needed boost.

2010 New York Islanders Season Preview

The New York Islanders enter the 2009-2010 NHL season with no where to go but up. That's because the Islanders finished last year with the worst record in the NHL. This season NY Head Coach Scott Gordon hopes to improve their record and hopefully compete for one of the eight playoff berths in the East.
