2012 All-Star Game Preview:
It's hard to believe, but the NHL season is already halfway over and teams will take a rest to watch the top players in the league hit the ice to decide which conference will get bragging rights for the following year. This year's game will be held in Ottawa at the Scotiabank Place, and the venue is expected to be jam-packed with excited NHL fans.
The NHL All Star Game took on a new form during the 2010-11 season where six captains (a goalie, three forwards and two defensemen) were chosen by fans. The captains then picked their teams based on a talent pool decided by the NHL. This is one of the most unique setups in all of sports and adds a special character to the game.
NHL All Star Weekend will kick off on Saturday, January 26th with the Fantasy Draft, which will determine the final order of the rosters. This will be followed by a Skills Competition where top players display skating speed, slapshots, relays and shootouts.
Last year, a team led by captain Niklas Lidstrom beat the team helmed by Eric Staal. This season it’s anyone’s game!
