Stanley Cup Championships: 0
The tradition of professional hockey is alive and well in Buffalo where the Sabres are just as popular as the town's beloved Bills. The Sabres entered the NHL in 1970 and have since gone on to make 29 appearances in the postseason, capture six division championships and make two trips to the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Sabres have had various Hall of Famers wear their colors over their history including Gilbert Perreault, who was the team's first overall pick in 1970. Other big names such as Tim Horton, Dale Hawerchuk and Pat LaFontaine have played enormous roles in many of the Sabres' playoff pushes.
Behind the strength of their standout rosters, the Sabres have made it to the Stanley Cup Finals twice - in 1975 and 1999. While the Sabres were pushed aside by the dynastic Philadelphia Flyers in 1975, the franchise came within a hair of winning the cup in 1999. In Game 7 against the Dallas Stars, the Sabres faced a 1-1 tie entering the third overtime when a controversial goal was called against goalie Dominik Hasek and the Sabres lost their best chance at the Stanley Cup.
The Sabres are continuing to produce stellar postseason performances, and their committed fan base will be there every step of the way as they vie for the ultimate title.
