OTTAWA SENATORS
Professional hockey returned to the Canadian capital in 1992 with the current version of the Ottawa Senators after a 58-year absence from the NHL. The Senators have made the most of their short tenure in the league by making 12 appearances in the NHL postseason, winning four division championships and making it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2007.
The Senators have been privileged with various talented players over the years, but their current captain, Daniel Alfredsson, looks to have the greatest shot at the Hall of Fame. As a fixture of the Senators front line since 1998, Alfredsson has joined talented players like goalie Ray Emery and defenseman Wade Redden to turn the Senators into a consistent playoff threat.
The Senators best shot at an NHL title came in 2007 when they finished second in the Eastern Conference and surged into the playoffs. After knocking off the Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres, the Senators were pitted against the upstart Anaheim Ducks. Unfortunately for the Sabres, the Ducks played an inspired series and knocked off the Senators in five games.
With the steady leadership of Daniel Alfredsson and a bevy of solid role players, the Senators will be a consistent threat in the Stanley Cup playoff race for the foreseeable future.
