PITTSBURGH PENGUINS EXPERIENCE:
Founded: 1967
Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Stadium: Mellon Arena

Division: Atlantic Division
Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup Titles: 2: 1990-91, 1991-92
Pittsburgh Penguins Conference Championships: 2
Notable Players: Michel Briere, Mario Lemieux, Paul Coffey, Bryan Trottier

The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the most storied teams in the NHL from the 1967 expansion.  The team also has one of the most exciting young players in the league in Sidney Crosby, the youngest team captain in NHL history at the age of 19.  Losing in the conference finals to the Ottawa Senators last season, the Pittsburgh Penguins are poised to make a run at the Cup this season.  With such young leadership, a game at the Mellon Arena this year should be a window into the future of this club.

The Pittsburgh Penguins were established in 1967 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The Penguins would struggle for much of heir early history until the team drafted Mario Lemieux in 1984 and then Jaromir Jagr in 1990.  The two players became a scoring machine for the Penguins, and would help win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992.  The Pittsburgh Penguins would find themselves in financial trouble later in the 1990’s and were forced to make contract cuts to stay afloat.  They did continue to have some play-off success, but found themselves in rebuilding mode in the early 2000’s.  The current squad is young and chock full of talent.

The Pittsburgh Penguins play their home games in the historic and unique Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh.  The arena’s shape (reminiscent of an igloo) is what gave the Pittsburgh Penguins their nickname.  The venue was built as an opera house in 1961 and has the first retractable dome roof ever built - the Pittsburgh Penguins new scoreboard makes this feature no longer operable.  Attending a Pittsburgh Penguins home game is to be a part of hockey history as the Penguins ownership is planning a new arena for the team.  Buy Pittsburgh Penguins tickets and watch the youngest captain in history lead his team to another Stanley Cup title!
