2012 Western Conference Finals Results: The 2012 NHL Western Conference Finals marked the first playoff series between the Phoenix Coyotes and the Los Angeles Kings. The series also marked the Coyotes first conference finals appearance and the Kings first appearance since 1993. Los Angeles came into the playoffs with a #8 seed but did not let that keep them from dominating the bracket. The first two games of the series were hosted by Phoenix at the Jobing.com Arena but the home advantage was not an advantage at all as the Kings led the series 2-0 heading into game three at the Staples Center.
Los Angeles would go on to defeat the Coyotes in five games becoming only the second team to eliminate the top three seeds and the second #8 seed to get to the finals in the current format. The Kings game 5 win against the Coyotes also extended their road game winning streak to ten games and setting the NHL record.
The Western Conference Finals pit the NHL Conference's best two teams in a seven game series with the winner advancing on to the Stanley Cup Finals. The best-of-seven series follows a 2-2-1-1-1 format where the higher-seeded team starts with the home advantage. Each team is guaranteed two home games and if necessary the higher seeded team will host games 5 and 7 while the lower seeded team hosts game 6.
